B5.5 Passat Estate TDI 130 Sport MPG, what to buy next??
Discussion
What MPG are you guys getting out of these big estate cars?
When I'm on a long motorway run I can get 47MPG with a small amount of town work involved, but it is very difficult to achieve (70MPH max over 90 miles, 75 of which is motorway).
When I'm driving around town I struggle to get much more than 30MPG.
I thought it would be a little more economical than this (although I realise it is good compared to the petrol alternative).
I don't really need a big estate car anymore, something the size of a Gold would do. I'd like to retain the ability to occasionally tow to France and back though.
I wouldn't mind something a little sporty either.
What about a Golf GT TDI, how does that compare for economy?

Is that the PD or the CR? CR's supposed to be a bit better on fuel.
I've averaged about 46mpg over the last 40k miles in my CR170 Octavia, but when I've been spending more time on the motorways I average about 50mpg on a tank.
If you're considering the Golf then also look at the Leon FR and the Octavia TDI, both get the CR170 engine, both cheaper than the Golf and the Octavia gets a huge boot as well, or available as an estate if you want a slightly shrunk version of your Passat.

You lot should try harder, I'm averaging 22mpg on my Passat B5.5 estate. Town driving drops to 16
That's the point, I'll get a hammering for it on here but I am trying to drive as economically as possible.
The CRX is for using lots of fuel, this is to get about cheaply.
Not sure what engine you have if you are averaging 22mpg, but I'm sure it's not a PD (unless it has some silly map on it)
Not interested in an estate car anymore, just don't need the load space!
