Right, been given a poor company car value to choose within. P11D Value of £15750. Its basically Ibiza, Fabia, Yaris, entry level astra, fiesta... you get the drift. I have a private car (Audi A4 Quattro) also but with company car tax it makes sense to maximise private use of the company car and fuel. Then... the Swift Sport 1.6 falls within budget. 136ps, 6 speed manual and the same bhp per tonne as the classic 205 1.6 GTi. If I cant have practicality I might has well have fun, well mild fun anyway? Right or wrong?

I've got one as I needed a small very reliable car for a while and I really enjoy mine. Yours would be the current model though with the 6 speed that I would think really improves it.

It is good fun to drive and I enjoy the 'sensation' of speed that it gives although get used to being beaten by every diesel out there. It is a bit rattly with little soundproofing.

Mine gets driven quite hard everywhere once warm and I also do a lot of short journeys, trip computer states 36.1 mpg average.

I have had much faster cars and honestly say I enjoy this more as you can drive it harder without doing silly speeds and worrying about loosing your license.

If you've got kids then get the 5 door!

Hope that helps but if you have any questions then ask mate

whilst i dont own / have never been in a swift sport (would like too).

my dad has a suzuki sx4 and has had a few issues with the car (not attacking the reliability) but the customer service is appauling if you do happen to need it. my dad was set on getting the current swift sport but has gone for something due to worries of ever having to take it back.

that said though, we think its a lovely looking car. if your local dealer is alright then i see no reason not to go for it.

Tiny! Mine has a divider that splits in 2 horizontally that is useful. I can still get a pushchair in the top half though. Mine is only for me as a runabout and for work so does not bother me really

Yes.

Owned both versions - 2nd & 3rd generation (current).
2nd generation handled better but was a harsh ride everywhere, and really suffered from a lack of 6th gear.
3rd Generation solved all these minor faults, much more pleasant ride on UK roads. Standard kit is also very good for the price (climate, HID lights, keyless go, ipod connect, bluetooth phone etc).
Engine is great, but like most Japanese cars you have to rev the nuts off it to get it going, but it loves to rev.

Both generations have been bullet proof reliable.

The only downside really is the small boot and the alloys are a pain to clean.

Owned one for a year - if it had been 5dr I would probably have kept it. It has the best dampening I've felt on any car - perfect compromise between sporty handling and comfort. Worth owning for that alone. Worth mentioning that if you are broad shouldered, the seats can feel a little tight.

were thinking of getting a 2010/11 one, all the review sound great, but of fun with reliability and decent MPG. I'm 6"2 but seeing as i have to drive a polo for work should not be an issue!

Interesting discussion, I'm thinking of chopping in my Citroen C1 diesel for something a little more fun for the (~75 mile return) commute to work.

Am a little torn between a ~2008 (mk2?) and a more recent ~2012 (mk3?) model and am in need of some advice. My commute is mainly B-road with some A-road thrown in for good measure, average speed of about 55mph over the journey with some opportunities for overtaking (lorries at 40mph in rural Cambridgeshire). Would there be much of requirement for a later (~2012) model in these circumstances? The 6th gear being an obvious potential advantage. Does reliability noticeably decline with older models?

In my C1 I have to leave about 1/2 mile gap to ensure life upon overtaking. I think the SSS would liven the commute up somewhat without hurting the pocket too much whilst ensuring lots of smiles-per-mile (although the prospect of given up ~75mpg is a little disconcerting).

Interested in ownership experiences and, in particular, whether you think the extra ~£3-4k is worth spending on one of the newer (~2012) models (values seem very reasonable for the equipment level).
