I will define unique as no contemporary rivals at the same price point.
I can think of a few but here's a couple to get us started.

Can't think of anything else quite like a Clio V6 (even now).

There were lots of affordable 2-seater roadsters available in 90s but are there any alternatives to a new MX5 now for c. 20k?

TVR Cerbera, set the motoring world alight when it was introduced. As did the Griff actually...

In fact probably all TVR models made in the last 20 years (up till 2006 or thereabouts frown )

Ariel Atom is quite unique with its exo-skeletal chassis

+1 for the Clio V6. Drive past one for sale each morning right now and am very tempted to stop and buy!

Plus always a fan of the Clio Williams which just makes it into the last 20 years!

And the can we add in the Renault 5 Turbo? I'd say that was unique!

You can get the Toybaru for circa twenty grand now, new I believe they were around 24-25K, not sure how far dealers were willing to move when negotiating though, I'd calls that a good rival to the MX5, as the back seats are totally useless.

Close the thread now. Never replaced and never copied but perhaps slightly ahead if it's time?

How many of those did they sell in the UK, about ten?

I want to say BAC Mono, due to it being both something that there are a lot of (trackday cars/light weight specials) yet it is a 'premium' product like a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche etc, both in its design and detail as well as its pricing.

I don't think we have had premium track day car other than the mono, Maserati did one in the late 80s/90s as a one off, that isn't a stripped supercar rather than a pure track day car.

The atom 500 is pricey but isn't really in the same league tech wise, nor dare I say it, image wise. Zonda R and the Ferrari fxx aren't road and are heavily modified supercars rather than roots up trackday cars.

EDIT - Just remember the caparo t1 thingy.

The Smart Crossblade - actually pretty much most of the Smart range were unique at the time.

Possibly still fresh. Far from unique.

Audi A2 - still hasn't been replaced.

Mercedes A class (the original version) - it's under floor engine packaging was innovative.

Chrysler PT Cruiser - retro/unique styling mixed with people carrier practibility.

Plymouth Prowler - just amazing from a mainstream manufacturer.

Ford Lightning pick-up truck - lowered and supercharged - 360 BHP and 0-60 in 6.2 seconds.
