I'm sure it's been covered..... But I just need some reassurance.

I've a car for sale on eBay, a chap from Paris has been in touch, wants to buy the car and is happy to send me a £500 deposit by bank transfer. I have given him by international details for an account I rarely use, you know 'in case' hehe

All seems legit, it's quite a special car (as far as they go anyway) and once he's paid the deposit he plans to collect at he end of the month.

Anyways, what do I need to do paperwork wise? The car is currently SORN, he plans to drive a few hundred miles to get a ferry back I think, that's his call though.

Is it just the section on the v5 I fill in then he takes the rest as he needs it to register the car there?

Cheers!

I did this a few years ago via ebay. Guy flew over paid in cash and drove home. He needed a few things to export car v5, receipt but I think that was it. It wasnt a big issue..

Just be sure when he collects he has £ Sterling and not Euro - I had this and both myself and the buyer were shocked at how much the bank wanted in commission to convert to £ - it almost ended the sale!

I think your buyer will need from you a COC or Certificate of Conformity in order to be able to register the car when he gets it home. COCs are usually available from the dealer who originally sold the car when new.

I've supplied a few cars to Eire, they seem happy with this arrangemnt. They will also need a proper recipt or invoice.

Met my buyer at the airport where he had a bag full of cash.

I sorted the certificate of conformity (Lotus Elise) for him in advance.

Drove to my house, he went through the paperwork and after a quick drive he headed off in the sunset towards Dover to catch a ferry he'd pre-booked. I took the tax disc to cash in & left him a colour photocopy in the car on the off-chance anyone gave a fleeting glance as it would still have been taxed until the end of the month anyway.

God knows what he'd have done if he didn't go through with the purchase as he was:

a) miles from the airport
b) no return flight booked
c) ferry crossing already booked
d) with no overnight bag / clothes

As I'd have just pointed him towards the bus-stop at the end of the road if he mucked me about smile

Seriously though I'd sent him loads of extra photo's and answered all his questions over email in advance, so he knew exactly what he was buying as I'd not hidden anything and been totally honest with the description.

I sold my VX220 to a guy from France - it was also SORN at the time of sale and apparently it has to be UK taxed in order to register it in France. I taxed the car in the UK, the guy took the car to France, sorted whatever he needed to do and posted me the tax disc back a couple of days later to claim my refund on 5 of the 6 months. He also paid me for the difference.

There was something about the log book as well - I think he had to have the complete log book - I can't remember exactly, but I am pretty sure he needed more than just the normal new keeper bit. It might have been that he took the complete back page.
