I'm looking at purchasing a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X FQ330. I've spotted one relatively locally that I fancy. However, when I've done a background check, it comes up as an FQ300.

Is there anyway I can tell that it's an FQ300 but just with an FQ330 badge and it's not actually an FQ330? Eg using chassis or engine number?

Also, if it was first registered in November 2011, how many service stamps might it have? I'd expect two at least as the Evo X is a once a year service interval, but do they also receive a run in service at one or two thousand miles?

Thanks.

If you've got the number plate of the car, maybe worth ringing Mitsubishi to see if they can look it up for you on their system and maybe confirm if it's an FQ300 or FQ330?

Good shout! I'll give that a go this morning!

Any other suggestions folks, or info on a run in service?

Thanks.

IIRC the FQ models are post-factory modifications so I don't think you'd see any difference in chassis or engine numbers. If you give the number to Mitsi UK they might be able to tell you though?

So that's makes me wonder what prevents someone from re-badging and adding a few grand to the price.

It's been 5 years since I last owned a performance car so there's no way I'd know the difference between the power of a 300 and a 330.

Why not buy a 300 then, if they're a few grand cheaper? biggrin

Very tempted to do so, but after reading numerous reviews, both expert and owner, the 330 seems the model to go for.

The 330 is the one to go for.

If you have the reg number a Mitsi dealer can go on the look up and get the exact spec of the car for you, I worked with Mitsi for 2.5 years!
