A mate of mine was being very careful this morning because of the flood water round where he lives (Oadby). A complete prat in a BMW X5 came tanking along the opposite side of the road causing a wake which seems to have caused some electrical issues in my mates car. He's properly pissed off about it. Has anyone else experienced this type of thing recently?

What, BMW drivers being prats?

Years ago I had something similar, making steady progress with a nice bow wave in a Rover that didn't like puddles let alone floods and a 7.5 ton truck comes tanking it the other way, his bow wave went over my roof (the wave, not just a splash). Thankfully I made it through with no obvious ill effects.

Chap on another forum had his 08 E Class written off recently following a very similar scenario drowning his car.

Similar happened to me but a white van instead. It not only threw up a lot of water but gravel as well which damaged my windscreen.

He isn't going to get any compensation so best look into getting the issue fixed.

What car is it?

If its fairly low tech it might be worth spraying WD40 on any electrical thing he can see. Hopefully that will fix it.

I've had similar riding a motorbike and had a tidal wave sent over me. Not much help to the OP's friend I know but it is amazing how much water someone can chuck up when they don't realise how deep a "puddle" is.

A few years back this happened to someone I know. A bus swamped his car and water locked the engine.

I'm sure I've seen comments about the Police booking people for driving with due care if they do this.

Only if they catch them in the act though unfortunately.
