You've just sold a cheap old car in a private sale and a couple of hours later the phone rings and it's the buyer....

yikes

Thankfully they were just checking they put their current address on the logbook because they've moved recently.

i usually get the 'fear' when buying a car. i have a mini heart attack anytime i hear a noise or something odd happens haha. i was on high alert after buying the mother in-law a runner touch wood no issues for over a year, not bad for a £300 106.

as for selling cars, i sold my fiat stilo and forgot to add key for the locking fuel cap. my heart was in my mouth when the buyer called (i always state any issues when selling a car) so i certainly dont expect callbacks haha

Yeah don't get me wrong, it was described honestly and they checked it over well before taking it, just knowing my luck it'd have packed up on the way home or something!

Most worrying drive home I've had after getting a car was taking my A6 home - it stank to high heaven due to a mouldy interior and I thought I was going to run out of fuel after the petrol station I went to first was closed!

I hate that call. One of note was a buyer complaining that he had a flat tyre on his way home. I offered to come to him and help change the wheel to which he declined. I was absolutely bemused as to what else he may have wanted me to do!

Sold a car on ebay a few days ago and the buyer has not been in touch other than to ask if i'm free on Saturday to collect. No reply to me telling him to bring a trailer.

yeah I've got the fear... that the bugger wont show up, or if he does he will expect to drive away irked

Advert marked as non-running, trailer collection only?

Always buy a car more than 250 miles from home so you can do 'the fear' before you use it for work etc

The last car I sold, I got a call 30 minutes later from the copper who stopped the new buyer for no insurance.
The buyer then phoned me wanting a refund!.

I once bought a 200k mile Mx5 for £500 and drove it 150 miles home. The car made it, no probs. I was a nervous wreck!

Lol had to say YES ! I always get that fear.. in fact iv had to nurse more than 1 car home before now after buying it from miles away.. my best one was a Alfa 156 i bought from Derby and had to drive home (south wales) in it when we had real bad snow last year

About 70miles from home the diff went, kept popping out of gear and eventually i stopped in services, called my breakdown but they would not touch the car because it was not taxed as i was late picking it up and so somehow managed to get it home with just 4th gear (lucky it was late) but i certainly had some interesting moments pulling off and going around roundabouts in the snow !

This has happened twice to me.
First time was when I sold my classic mini, the buyer got a mile up the road and it stopped working, found out it was the float in the carb was causing the fuel to stop.

Second time the arse hole of a buyer threatened to take me to court.
He contacted me SIX MONTHS after buying the car to complain that the bottom end bearings were fecked and it was my fault...?
He wanted a full refund for the car (£800) and a full refund for the usage of the car up to the point it stopped working (£500)
He was swiftly told to take his head and boil it
