insurance claim
Discussion
Car door got dented and scratched today by the car next to me. Their child swung the door into mine probably aided with the strong winds at the moment.
He gave me his details and said about insurance.
He has admitted fault already, there are cameras in the car park anyway.
What is the process of claiming on his insurance?
What does the insurance inspector check when they view my damage?
Do I pay anything at all??
Cheers..

Definitely agree on whats said about the getting the camera footage from the carpark. Even if you don't pass it your insurance company should you decide to go down that route. Its your safety net to prove what happened.
Oh and expect your insurance to go up regardless if it a no fault claim. And expect you will have to do work if the other party decides to plays silly beggars and deny the claim.
Depending how bad the door damage is I would be tempted to get an independant quote from a garage or a dent master one and see if they want to just pay for the damage.
If you go through insurance and other party had admitted liability then no don't have to pay anything, if they start messing around or deny the claim you could have to pay your access to get your car fixed - which will be refunded when the insurance company sort its.
You have probably worked out I'm not a fan of insurance companies at all, - I've had 2 claims in the last 5 years and both time where a lot of hassle with poor quality repair jobs, corner cutting and an unsafe repair and only doing 1/2 the work !

Had a ding on my car door, didn't see who done it, didn't even crack the paint but looked bad.
£420. My exes was £400. Ouch......

Even if your excess was 100, I'd still consider not claiming. Bear in mind some insurers ask for any claims in the last 5 years, so that's potentially 5 years of inflated premiums.£420. My exes was £400. Ouch......

Not an issue for the OP of course....although that being said, non-fault claims also count against you too (sometimes)
How big is the dent, and how much paint damage has been done?
Its could be better for both of your insurance premiums (for the next 5 years) if the other party pays to repair your door at a body shop. I'd imagine they could pull out the dent, and apply some touch-up paint to that area?
Depends how bad it is, and at what point you'd say "Oh, that'll do the job"
(have you got any photos of the damage on your door?)
