Am I going mad laugh

Well its actually for my wife hehe who currently is wafting about in her rather leggy Rover 75 SE CDT Tourer which quite frankly is sooo slow its embarrassing. She wants something a bit zippier, we no longer need the estate as we are now down to only one dog, we had two dogs until a few weeks back  so less dog space now required.

She uses it for backwards & forwards to her horse yard business & it gets plastered in farmyard muck so no need for anything shiny I've given up cleaning her cars!

Now whatever the car it has to be

1) bright blue hehe
2) economical - 50mpg in real life (her 75 does mid 40's)
3) reliable - Simpler the better
4) leather seats
5) hatchback for the dog
6) No crashy riding cars full stop she hates them
7) Must have a spare wheel!!! (local hedgerows give us a puncture every 2-3-4 months! & she will happily change a wheel in under 5 mins, we are on first name terms with the local tyre fitter.

Now these Rover Streetwise's keep popping up on my radar, cheap, well specced, come in bright metallic blue, leather or half trim, have had the 2.0TD L-Series engines before in a couple of Rovers years ago, good lumps in my experience & 50mpg was easy enough. Not fussed about the road tax as thats an insignificant cost. The fact they come with plastic bumpers is a bonus in my opinion, very Dacia esque which I like the idea of, we are even considering buying a new Dacia too.

The other option is a Gen1 Honda Insight if I can find one.... which I have just about convinced her is a cool car, that took some persuading hehe

Anybody running a 2.0TD Streetwise ?? what is the ride like??

I'd not...

An Insight however, very cool. Aren't they pretty expensive though.

I'd have one. They are absolutely PEANUTS to buy (I've seen a couple come up for £400 ish on a FB group) and everything about them is exhaustively known by the beards. In fact, most of the anoracks would give you their kidney if it would keep another Rover on the road for another year.

If you're just chucking the dog in the back, I think you could do a lot lot worse for the money.

Unfairly maligned. Basically a Rover 25 with jacked up suspension and Tupperware. The R25 was a very decent driving car despite what many pub experts will tell you, and the diesel, whilst being agricultural, had a decent turn of speed and I believe was fairly economical. You might struggle to find one with leather but there will be plenty of seats from broken mg zrs.

How about a polo dune, same concept but better built.

Good thinking, but.... previous & current experience of VAG products leads me to know that better built is far far far from the truth. Find me a polo/lupo with fully working electric windows/switches or central locking/locks wink Thankfully my Lupo has clockwork windows & locking.

Still I'll have a look into then, do you get the 1.4tdi in them as I like the PD engines
