Why can't I brake and accelerate that the same time

OOO, I do so hate modern cars.

Just discovered that my Wife's Polo will not let me accelerate and brake with the foot break at the same time. It kills the ignition or something

So how can I bedin, test and find the squeaking noise then?

What 'problem' was that un-asked for solution to then?

Most cut the power, it's a shame as accelerating away from someone tailgating you with the brake lights lit is good fun.

I don't LFB, but I heel and toe in every manual car that I drive and I have to admit I've never found a car that cuts the power. After reading threads on the issue I've even driven along with a foot one each pedal in a number of different cars and still no throttle cut. Obviously I've never driven a Polo though!

most VAG duel clutch cars do this and they will change up on the red line as well and wont hold it

all have this particularly annoying function - you could try removing the brake switch - but you'll have no brake lights.

Does it make any difference if you do one first, e.g. accelerate after braking?

My old Octavia vRS did this which was an utter pain in the ass although I just ditched LFB in the end until I got back to a car that could deal with it. Even my old Sprinter could deal with it...

Anyway, although I never tried it I believe that there are two brake switches in VAGS; one does the brake lights (and fails a lot) and the other controls the signal to the ECU. Unplug the ECU one and all should be right with the world again...

Not Audi. After our last thread on this I took my hired A4 out and drove for about half a mile with a foot on the brake and a foot on the throttle - no throttle cut at all.

In additon to that I've driven a VW Golf GTi and an Audi RS4 and heel and toed in both without any throttle cut out.

I too toe and heel, and haven't yet found a car which doesn't allow that, they usually cut power after a few seconds of both pedals being pressed, not just a blip

I tried prolonged driving with the brake and throttle down in the Audi A4 I had s a courtesy car last year and no throttle cut there. Same thing with all the BMWs I've owned too. It's not something I want to do in a car, I just found it weird how I've neve experienced this issue.

Quite sure my Fiesta ST did this, but it would have to be after prolonged application of brake and throttle together, on the order of 3secs or so. Not a problem as it of course never got in the way of normal heel & toe blipping, but interesting to know.

These cuts don't affect heel and toe but won't allow you to left foot brake.

Just avoid rubbish modern cars!

There is a way round it



Apply LFB as required & maintain it whilst throttling, await cut, briefly lift the throttle & re-aply (whilst still braking) hey presto you have both until you lift off again.


Works on 99% of modern cars

Lots of accidents where muppets hit both pedals at the same time - with too much throttle and not enough brake.

Dreadful "progress" in my opinion, as a user of trail-braking.

It's to cut fueling on overrun making the vehicle more economical which also cleans up the emissions. H&S has nothing to do with it .

Yes Audi - well the 3 modern ones that I had anyway!!
2004 A4 YES,
2006 A4 YES,
2002 A6 YES.

My Skoda does this as well, slightly annoying but suppose you don't really need LFB or trail braking in everyday driving.

Probably because VAG were founded by hitler and not aimed at serious drivers.
I believe you can have it mapped away. It is retarded but the majority of pedestrian drivers will never notice it anyway.

So what are the mechanics of this?
The accelerating and braking at the same time as you can't really go faster whilst going slower.

I know "because racecar", but I can't figure out what the point of it is.
