Just looking for a sense check here as I'm trying to work out if I'm being unfair.
So I took my 1990's car to a garage for repair. they are over 100 miles away from me, so it was an incovenience, but I thought for my old girl, it was worth it. Now the said garage has done the work asked of them and as far as i can make out they have done a very good job. All is well! BUT, as with most old cars worth a bit, they need to have alarm / imobilisers fitted, you know the thatcham cat 1 type. My car has one, which worked perfectly, because it was serviced by the alarm installer and for the past 9 months it has worked perfectly. So I collected the car and low and behold I drive her home and the alarm wont arm?? oh hang on the imobiliser is not activating?? strange? So I ring up and the person at the other end of the phone says the usual, oh sorry about this, I'll look into it call you back. No call. Phone again, 'oh yes, sorry busy, talked to all concerned, no issues with alarm sorry, can't help.

So here's where I want a sense check. I know am going to have to get the alarm company out to fix the alarm, and pay them. I feel that the garage should cough up for this, am I being fair?

They did some work on engine, gearbox and clutch.

Is any of that likely to have meant they'd have fiddled with wiring related to the alarm/immobiliser? It could just be a coincidence.

Did they have to disconnect the battery or something like that?

In my experieince, alarm / imobilizers can be a right pain in the arse. If something has been disturbed and although put back as it was it may have caused something to go wrong; best have someone who knows about the alarm / imob to troubleshoot
