UK return for Mitsubishi Evo X
40th anniversary special on the way in 2014; Evo vs Impreza is back!

But that looks all set to change. Kind of. With the WRX STI returning to Britain shortly as a four-door, it's perhaps no coincidence that we will now see an Evo X comeback, albeit in very small numbers.
According to Autocar, Mitsubishi will bring 40 Evo Xs here to mark 40 years of Mitsubishi in the UK. It comes following an interview with Mitsubishi's UK boss Lance Bradley, who said that the 40 cars will 'have the right standard equipment to deliver the performance we want'. Could that mean an Evo X FQ400 with even more performance? Or perhaps an FQ360 with less weight and some fancy dynamic upgrades?
We can only speculate on what the 40th anniversary Evo X will be like with no firm details at present. It's expected that it will carry a few badges and embellishments marking it out as a limited edition.
As well as the anniversary, a more favourable yen/GBP exchange rate has made the reintroduction of an Evo feasible. Presumably this will remain a factor for any future Evo models too.
We'll bring you more details on the anniversary Lancer (Evo XL perhaps?) as soon as they're available. Until then, there are over 20 Evo Xs in the classifieds. This FQ330 SST just sneaks in under £20K and this FQ360 must be one of the last registered in Britain on a 61 plate with 4,200 miles.

These used to hold a massive advantage over the competition for a small amount of extra outlay.
They now cost a fair whack and fail to be any quicker then a 1 series nowadays.
Against the R32's etc in their hey day they had more power and you could throw them down the road better but now we have, Golf R's, S3's, RS3's, Merc A45! etc etc.
They just havent got a USB anymore.
and ......better
There was a used 650bhp EVO in the classifieds recently, and it was a bargain too!!
I for one welcome this. Looking forward to see what they've got planned.
and ......better
Try comparing like with like for once.

Even a 15 year old Evo 6 will show todays "hot" hatches a clean pair of heals which says a lot.
I've always been on the Mitsubishi side of the rally car argument. One of my favourite cars on the road, but the running costs will probably stop me from ever owning one

I disagree about the power (or lack of) as these things properly shift.

Where have I also compared it to the limited run 400? The story doesnt even comment on whether it will be this or a lower spec model so get off your high horse.
The 400 also needed servicing every other week in normal driving so not really a 'normal' car.
My point was against the standard STI's and Evo's around the 300bhp mark. There is plenty of cars nowadays around that mark which are just as capable or even more so. I have seen a A45 go road a track and it is stupidly affective and doesnt understeer like a traditional Haldex system which has been commented on multiple times from drivers/Jornos.
Don't just get defensive as you own one/have owned one and not actually discuss/talk about a valid point.
Do you really think a limited run Evo is going to be around the 30k mark or more like £40-45k or more?

Its funny how people say this, but never produce an example of it actually being true. Probably because its a load of b0ll0x.
I have driven plenty of tuned Scoobys and been the passenger in an Evo 6 T.M and a slightly tweaked Evo 4.
My point is a standard Scooby or even a rehashed Evo isnt as good at the majority of measurable parameters. Why else did Subaru pull the STI and WRX out of the UK, if they were that good people would have bought them. People didn't. Work that out for a second.

Where both the Evo and the STi excel is in their astonishing ability to tackle a British B-road and mask their bulk extremely well. I went from a blackbird powered Westfield, which was damn quick down a B-Road, to an Evo VII RS, and was astonished how quickly a big heavy 4 door saloon car can be made to travel.
I think a lot of the modern super-hatches have closed the gap massively, but on a crappy road, with marginal grip, they do still have an advantage over something like a 1M - and I speak from personal experience.
I think it's great that Mitsi are celebrating such a landmark car.
