I've recently bought a 318is with the sole intended use of being a track car. However due to the driving license rules I cannot tow it (without spending £1k for a trailer test).
The car is taxed and mot'd and my first thought was a 'day insurance' to get me to and from the track. The new government rules now state however that I cannot have tax if the cars not insured.
I'd rather not insure the car for 12 months if I'm going to be using it for a handful of days a year.
Any thoughts at all? I presume I'll be forced to insure it?

I suppose you could tax it when you want to use it, then cancel it the next day.

Where do you get £1k for the trailer test? Last time I looked, it was a fraction of that. ETA: The government website says £115?

If you want to drive it, you need MOT, insurance and tax (unless there's a MOT station at the track. Even then, using the driving to/from MOT exemption to avoid test & tax is more than bit cheeky if you do it several times a year - and you'll still need insurance).

Depending on how long you plan to keep it, or keep any sort of track use only vehicle, the trailer test could work out cheaper.

(someone'll be along in a minute to say that insurance is void if there's no MOT)
