Ho hum, been quite a week, illness, working outside and to top it off involved in an RTA on the drive home...

Still, nobody hurt which is the main thing...

So, without prolonging the thread, what's people's opinions on this (aside from it needing a wash):

Damage is as follows:

Headlamp broken and pushed back
NSF Bumper scratched
NSF Wing scratched and dented
NSF Wheel impact damage and tyre bulge
NSF Door scratches and missing trim, door closes awkwardly but think it's due to;
NSR Door severe dent + scratches, door opened once, closed, now doesn't open
NS Under door trim cracked
NSR Wheel severe scratches
SNR 1/4 panel dents and scratches
NSR Bumper scratches
OSR Wheel impact damage
OS F&R doors light scuffing

Car is worth ~£5500-6000 judging roughly by the trader

In the best "Banzai" style...

Definite writeoff. 60% of total value and I reckon you've easily got over £4K there.

Almost certainly a write-off.

Based on a proper insurance repair, more than likely, cut off is usually 60% of the value of the car, so on that basis anything over £3k in repairs will see that written off, I suspect most bodyshops wiill price that at more as it'll be new panels and parts everywhere, beating and filling.

Insurance repair? Write off

Local repair? Possibly repairable with second hand parts?

I would have guessed at write-off - but then my Mondeo (worth £3-4k) had similar damage last year and was repaired. It had:
- NSF wing
- NSF door
- NSR door
- NSR wing
- NS sill
all replaced with new.

Buggar, I was thinking as much...

It took ages to find a V70 that hadn't been an abused family wagon, solicitor owned from new then we bought it and I've looked after it

All the ones I see for sale are either leggy high milers or abused family cars with severely ageing leather seats...

Oh well, will update when the insurance let me know what they want to do

Advice for getting the best price from insurers? I know the ombudsman doesn't take "for sale" ads to be very convincing guides for value, not sure how else I can show it...

Haha, I wish...

That's actually our neighbours house you're seeing in the photo, the car is parked behind our house and we share a T shaped end of road "driveway"

Still have space to park five cars off the road which is nice, plus the single garage for the bikes...

Not bad for a small house in a newish development smile

Surely you can request retention of salvage (easier if non-fault and requested via an AMC).

You can then keep the cash and get it repaired cheaply/use second hand parts when they come up or just run it as is?

write off i reckon... rear wing alone will be a fortune in paint and labour if they replace the panelwhich they should

Afraid so its going to be an uneconomical repair - but - you should be able to buy it back if you want to for peanuts, and get a decent payout then have it fixed by your local small bodyshop for under £1k using a second hand rear door, headlight and maybe a bumper.

Getting a little ahead of myself I know, but this I'm tempted by, variables I don't know are the salvage value obviously, the price of parts, what impact a Cat recorded would have on future value, but tbh I'll be keeping the car for a while or getting another one the same, not interested in anything else

However, I've always thought it would be nice with an auto box or even an XC70, my work takes me to some muddy places as you can see from the photo, it was washed last weekend...

I'm going against the grain and betting on it being repaired, just because everyone else says no...

The rear panel includes the rear window, and it does look like an expensive bit of metal...

The insurer's originally wrote off my car. I was gutted. Their policy unfortunately didn't give the option to buy it back.
After some haggling the car was deemed repairable smile It's now on the mend.

Good luck, if you really like the car and think it's going to be difficult to replace I'd fight it and try every option to have the car bought back or repaired. Looks like it will drive ok so you won't have to rush finding replacement parts. You may be on to a winner if you get to keep it and receive the payout.

It drove the 70 miles or so home yesterday just fine apart from the missing indicator and wonky headlamp, the other guy left the scene on a recovery truck, go Volvo!!

Tyre bulge developed on the way back though so that would need sorting, typically it had new front tyres and a four wheel alignment only two weeks ago, given it mounted a kerb twice, and on of those was sideways I think it'll need a tweak...

What engine/spec and how many miles?

Be prepared to provide examples to get a fair payout, and reject their first offer.

Was it your fault, or the other party?

Looks like a lot of work... Write off, get lodasa money from the insurers (never take their first offer) and buy another car - maybe the same, maybe take the opportunity to try soemthing different?
