My wife the petrolhead

I have always counted myself fortunate that my wife is also a bit of a petrolhead, she currently runs a remapped and lightly modified MK4 Golf GTI 3dr.
The 3dr has caused the need for a change as our daughter turned 1 yesterday and is a bit too big to be lugging in and out of a 3dr.
So what has she gone for? A 4.4 V8 X5, black on black with a huge amount of kit, I have to say it is really rather nice.
So now we have two excessively large V8 cars in the household, I run a 5.0 V8 CLS.
I can see a couple of Pistonheads V8 t-shirts in the immediate future.

Wifie currently has a new model z4, previously a Scooby, z4 3.0Si coupe, 3 series coupe, mr2 and celica.
All bought new and spec'd with the "right" options.
Cant get her head around buying used though, which is a shame because she could have some really heavy duty kit for her £30-35K budget.

I'm also part of a V8 marriage. My husband runs an X5 4.6is (lovely) and I very lucky to daily drive a Merc C63 AMG estate. We actually have a third V8 in the household - a 1965 TVR Griffith 200 with Ford 289 V8 which we both race. We're also partial to V6s (we have an Alfa 166 and Lancia Aurelia B20), V4s (we have 2 Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato's) and turbos (2 Fiat Coupes and Lancia Thema stationwagon).
And that's not all the cars / vehicles....you could say we're car obsessed / wheel.
Good on your wife - she'll love the X5. Excellent in all conditions and extremely sprightly (read... fast).

My wife was thrilled when she first drove her 1 series (177 bhp 120d) as it was much faster than her previous golf (100 bhp)
She likes it when I do the loud-fast thing when she rides pillion on my motorcycle too (the sound is a big thing for her, she's deaf and can only hear low tones without hearing aids...i have a v-twin with a loud exhaust. Incidentally she loves airshows when the big fighter jets come along)
She also doesnt mind getting her hands dirty (I showed her how to change the cabin and air filters on her BMW, and she's helped me with my bike). She's no thicko when it comes to vehicle maintenance either, knows what should be attended to and when and not just when the computer tells her

My wife couldn't care less when I first met her. Since knowing me, she fancied a Z4 but thought they were unattainable (coming from a Ford KA) so didn't pursue it.
I invited her to a weekend at the ring a couple of years ago and she's been turning into one since then.
Now she cheerfully tells me when she's seen a nice E31 or E30 as 'you don't see many on the roads now' and will invariably comment on braking points and apex clipping when we're in the car together.

Wont have anything sensible though as it would be "too slow"
Beat me at a standing mile event (same car) 157 mph+ in my focus
Drove her brothers m5 at a mile event left 2 very long black lines with the majority of the rear tires on 2 runs both times hitting the 155 mph limiter
Had a customer at my work point out my car (not knowing it was mine) explaining that he has seen it on his commute to work & commented he had been embarrassed by being "beaten by a girl"
Not sure she is being entirely truthful

Not quite on the same level as the above but my OH has had the same mk1 MX5 for nearly a decade and won't be parted from it.
We share a somewhat treacherous commute to work, and having tried to drive her car on icy mornings that she takes in her stride, she deserves some sort of PH medal.

A fat pudding of an X5, if that is proof of petrol in the veins then blow me down. No doubt she needs a family car with the nippers in tow, I can accept that - plenty have been and will go there in the future, and of course as she is a proper petrol head she had to have a car that weighed over two tons and is saddled with an auto box , stonking.

Have you heard the x5 4.6i v8? It sounds lovely its a barge sure but its fast great noise and IMHO if its M Sport looks very nice too. Is it new, what year etc?

My wife is a reformed petrolhead, she seems to be living up to some sort of stereotypical accountant image now though with german diesels.
She pretends she hates my focus yet the last time she was "forced" to use it to drop me at the station im pretty sure i heard it flat out through 2nd and 3rd gear on the backroad home
