What's the perfect car for picking up a first date?

As it's Valentines day, what would be the perfect car to pick a girl (or boy) up in for a first date?
I would want to maintain an air of mystery/intrigue.
Nothing too flash but not a banger either and not something that looks like I borrowed it from my mum. Not so slow that you have to rev the nuts off it but no so fast that you drive like a d***!
I think a tidy one of these would fit the bill quite nicely.
You could make fairly swift progress without drawing attention to it and comfortable and a good heater too. Stick a non-tacky private plate on it and they wouldn't necessarily know it's a 20+ year old car.
If it was a summer date or maybe a second date, once you have discovered they're actually a fun person then the convertible equivalent would do very nicely!

Having owned old convertibles though, they can be quite noisy hood up and hood down to hold a conversation and water dripping onto your date's lap in heavy rain probably isn't going to endear you to them either!
Just for the record, I have been married for 3.5 years so haven't had a first date for a while and I got it totally wrong (but obviously it didn't matter).
1st date - didn't pick her up but arrived in a diesel Beetle Cabriolet (maybe a bit too effeminate but it was a company car)
2nd date - picked her up in a new Golf GTI (MkV) borrowed from a colleague (a bit too flash and drove too fast)
3rd date - went to lunch with her and her parents and turned up in my own white E30 325i Cabriolet (probably looked like a drug dealer/pimp).
Her parents also probably thought I was a professional car thief what with all the different cars!

For a first date you want something not too flashy, but something that shows you aren't a loser. (Generally) Something that doesn't single you out as being a car nerd - they're boring.
Hence, Audi anything. White, diesel, big wheels. Hateful cars, but the apex of successful yet un-flashy for normal folks these days.

Um...in my case it was a green diesel Peugeot, but you know, we're still together (touchwood)
I think a good reference for this was the old TG cool wall, but adapted into more lemonade pockets / champagne tongue styles.
Anything too 'out there' is a no-no, just comes off as odd. Like that guy who had a Lambo, except it was like a £2k tractor and he just had the keyring for that ponceyness factor. Not really digging that one.

It's quiet. It's elegant. It's comfortable. It's safe. It's swift. It's understated yet good looking. It's decent on fuel. You can say you drive a hybrid (to certain females). It's modern and flash enough to say 'successful'. It's not an Audi or BMW or Merc so it adds mystery.
