Anyone up round cumbria/penrith way - is it impassable?

I've arranged to meet someone tomorrow morning at Tebay services (J38 M6) to do a car swap. I'm travelling up from Leeds, him from scotland.

Planning to go A1 - A66 - A685

Heard on the radio there's snow and road closures up on the A66 somewhere but just wanted to check if anyone on here is aware of anything untoward and should I postpone travelling up that way in the morning?

Its pissing down here in Leeds at the moment but not snowing.

Go M62 to M6? Might be a bit blustery but it'd take a lot to make that road impassable. Even if snows the trucks wil clear it.

AFAIK the A66 is open. It has been closed due to high winds earlier in the week. Have a look at Durham Constabulary's Twitter account or website for current info.

M62 - M6 is an option - just boring, longer and the route over from Richmond to Tebay might be a bit more fun.

Still, getting stuck will fk that right up obviously.

Not worth the risk. You could go A65 through Otley, Ilkey and Skipton and join the M6 just after Kirkby Lonsdale. That's an interesting enough route. If that's fairly clear, come back the same way but head across to Hawes (you can do this just after Kirkby Lonsdale, leaving the A65). There is a village you turn left at but I can't remember what it's called at this moment in time. This would take you through Hawes to Bedale and onto the A1 a few miles north of Wetherby.

Aye, you are probably right. Think I'll go safe on the way there - M62-M6 then more interesting on the way back as you suggest. Hopefully the new car will make it an interesting drive back.

Nice car. The route down through Hawes is pretty much perfect for cars like that, great mix of roads and plenty of places to overtake. Always come back that way from Windermere to join the A1, had an epic race across there recently against a Mini Cooper SD, I was driving an Ibiza 2.0 TDI FR, really evenly matched and the most fun I've had in ages.
