What would you award Fixed Penalty points for?

I think that speeding should be dealt with by a fine alone unless in urban areas. Totting up to 12 points is a good detrrrent but a bit harsh if you get bagged at 88 on the M6 at night.

So if I could I would make all 30 & 40 mph infringments 3 points and £100 but use a sliding scale and no points for 'extra urban' speeding up to a maximum of £2000 for double the limit, start off at £100 for 10 mph over, £200 for 20 and £1000 for 100 and up.

Do you agree?

I would then like to see 3 points issued for tailgating, and use the number plate recognition cameras and some software which I am sure can be written to have an automated tailgating cam. Maybe two cameras scanning an area of road and if it only detects the number on one of two cameras the tailgaing is happening, image recorded and a human verifies before issuing a ticket.

What would you enforce and how?

So, when chummy overtakes you and cuts back in close to you, you get done for tailgating.

Excellent outcome.

The amount of times someone has decided to turn across me with no indicator at a mini roundabout, causing us both to brake sharpy, only to proceed to have a go as they have right of way!

It's about driving standards. It's too much stick and not enough carrot. Attend a SAC and then pass the IAM or RoSPA test within X months of the offence that got you the invitation to the SAC or any other 'driver improvement' course and get your course fee refunded.

The Government's Green Paper on young drivers, the ones that die most often on our roads, has been put back. Pass the IAM or RoSPA test and be exempted from the Insurance Premium Tax (6%). Lets drive standards up!

Any one committing a driving offense whilst having a "baby on board" sign (or words to that effect) should have an additional three points issued and any fine doubled.
