Transfering the V5

Ok weird scenario I hope someone can shed a little light on.
Insurance company decide to write off car due to them valueing it low.
As requested I sign section 9 of the V5 amd send it over to them.
I then prooved the car was worth more amd they decide to repair it and is currently getting sorted as we speak.
They then return the V5 with no extra owners still in my name and my signature still on section 9 but unsigned from them, so its the same slip I send to them. All seems straight forward so far until I get the confirmation from the DVLA confirming I am no longer the RK.
How could I have recieved that if they never sent off the V5?
