Buckled wheels any value?

So from a tyre and wheel set I purchased on eBay it would appear x4 have 1-3mm side to side wobble. The worst being a rear that looks nearer to 3mm and the rest have only a slight out of shape eg 1mm of movement on the balance machine.

As they are twisted at the spokes is there any value selling them as scrap or perhaps race days???

They are Bmw mv3 18inch and are genuine staggered fit

But what does the tyre look like when spinning? They are never 100% true. If they balance up ok I'd be inclined to just use them...

If they have no visible damage / cracks and they balance up I'd use them.

Obviously it's impossible to say if they are 100% safe - a friend who races has to X ray his wheels periodically.

But I'd suggest most 17"+ wheels are buckled to some extent after a few years use.

They all balance up ok and with a tyre you can see them being slightly out of shape. A lot of out of shape would be transmitted through the run flats so normal tyres would be ok???

Why x ray them? To see for any cracks I guess.

X ray is better for detecting defects such as porosity or inclusions, which are usually manufacturing defects rather than in service. Fluorescent penetrant inspection would be far better for detecting cracks.... Unless I am missing something?

I think you may be correct - could not remember which way around it was !
Looking on the web its seems quite a few wheel repair places offer an xray and penetrative fluid test

Why X-ray wheels?

He maintains classic FIA racers and hill climbers.

It might be a race series requirement or for Magnesium wheels - but I always presumed it was to detect cracks / fractures
