reccomend me a petrol car

After being put off a fabia vrs/ibiza fr with the pd130 due to the initial cost and big diesel bills if they go wrong im now looking at potential petrols.
Basically i want a car that is sporty, can get 35mpg with some enthusiastic driving in there and not sitting at 3500 rpm at 70 mph like my current clio does. Preferably a 07 or newer.
Budget =4000, insurance not too much preferably. And NOT the fiat panda 100 lol

True, the PD units are generally pretty solid, if rather... dieselish, both in terms of power delivery and refinement (or lack thereof).
Is it worth the price they are though? Most of them are 4,500 with 80,000 on the clock and a 05/06. Is this not very expensive for a 8 year old car?
Thats still only 10,000 miles a year which is about average, it's not the millage anyway it's how well they have been serviced.
£4500 is quite a lot of money for a 8 year old hatch back but these are the sporty models so expect to pay a premium for a derv anyway. I don't think the same Ibiza with a petrol engine would be much less anyways
The main reason I would choose these engines is a 6th gear, makes motorway crusing much easier

You sure about that? I used to be hugely into VAG cars, and know quite a few people with PD engined cars, some standard, some modified. I honestly think you get luck of the draw with a PD - if it's a good one, they're torquey, fuel efficient and very reliable. If you get a bad one then be prepared to fork out for turbos, injectors etc. I know at least 3 people who have had catastophic PD failure!They don't eat turbos, they don't eat injectors. they are fine engines
Ironically, all of the modified ones are the most reliable out of the people i know...
My 07 Fiesta St gets around 31mpg in general use but is under-geared for motorways and needs a 6th gear (or they should have more widely spaced the 5 it has). That said, doing 80 instead of 70 leaves the noise behind.
Our 09 2.0 Mondeo also gets around 30 and is vastly better geared on the motorway. I seem to recall they were becoming affordable, even with Ghia spec.
