How much more to pay than a wbac valuation ?
Discussion
If the dealer bought the car for 16k, and actually sold it for 18.5k I'd be surprised. If it went for a round 18k, that is 2k of margin and probably nearer the truth.
Out of that, VAT is chargeable on the 2k, they have the cost of preparing the car, have to build in the fact they may have to repair some part. So I'd suggest, pretty reasonable.
The WBAC figure though, one hears of quite a few cases where WBAC come, and then proceed to value the car lower because of 'defects'.

Well if u don`t ask..u don`t get.....going to offer 750 under asking :-)
Wow - that's brave... notWhere I spend a lot of my time if anyone offered only £750 below asking he'd be "catch of the day"

And probably would not be allowed that discount either, dealer would squeeze another £250 out of him.
Typical buyer here would probably start off with 15k and only conclude if his subsequent best offer of 16.5 / 17k absolute tops were accepted.
Different culture and all that I suppose.
just had a quick look on autotrader + ph classified and all the st3's listed at that price seem to be 2012 plates with not much above what comes as standard ,
so if the car in question is newer i.e. under a year old with more kit then £18500 would seem to be pretty reasonable, if not I personally would be looking at upping the budget a little and going for a new one

okay
then i would try and use the fact that new cars can be had for not much more than the asking price, (probably due to the fact that the face lift model is due out later this year), and try and negotiate down some.
I would probably make an offer around £17,000 and see what they say.
If they won't budge then walk away, but let them know your interested and leave your contact details incase they have a change of heart and want to make you a better offer.

Where is 'here'?Different culture and all that I suppose.
As had been said, there's no way a dealer is working with that kind of margin, going in expecting to offer 15 and buy at 16.5? You may as well just stay at home as it will save yours and the dealers time.
As it goes, an offer of £17750 isn't that shocking, I doubt that will get accepted and you may get an agreement at £18k if you are ready to commit, don't make an offer then go 'ooohh ahhh ummmm, I need to think about it' because you'll look like a proper pillock.
Oh, and don't even mention WBAC, the last person that tried that at my place got a 'well go and buy a car from them' from my manager
