Were any of you ever this stupid when younger??

Driving through a 30 zone last night in my Evo, nothing behind me, then suddenly a pair of lights. The car then shot past me, overtaking going over a speed bump which is a pedestrian crossing, goes flying past me straight into a red light. Overshoots the lights by a car length and also now sitting at an angle as he was crossing to the correct side of the road. He puts it in reverse and comes back about a foot, so now still straddling the line for the traffic lights.

I'm now sitting laughing my tits off at him (this is a polo tdi). Then realise that he still has his reverse lights on. Seeing his previous driving I move back a bit, sure enough he attempts the traffic light grand prix and leaves it in reverse. Comes back about 2 metres before he manages to get the right gear. Off he tears, I sat behind him till about 35 and then dropped back (I genuinely don't like to speed in 30 zones, it's a busy area and I certainly don't race). He goes flying off and then has to slam his brakes on and nearly hits someone trying to cross the road who obviously wasn't expecting some nugget to be doing 70mph. By the time he gets going again I am nearly behind him, so off he goes again like a bat out of hell. I see brake lights again and some old lady is trying to parallel park her micro, partially blocking the road. Again Mr rocket ship has nearly hit her, he then decides to mount the pavement to go around her. I stop a good distance back and wait whilst she finishes her parking. Just in time to see idiot boy going tanking around a roundabout and come flying back up the road flashing his lights at. I shook the coffee beans at him.

I in no way incited him to race, and am stunned really that a diesel polo would try it with an FQ-360.

I have never in my life seen such dangerous, irresponsible and frankly st, driving in public. I wonder if he had just passed his test and was a bit excited. This sort of st happens all the time in the Evo, kinda getting sick of it now and TBH felt guilty last night even though I had done no wrong as the young lad was obviously driving that way due to the presence of my car.

theres a time and a place for certain antics and a 30 zone is neither. (i'm 21) I like to bait more powerful cars when the time and place is right and it can be fun for both parties but i never consider my actions as dangerous.

if they dont play then time to put it in 5th and get some mpg lol

Didn't think about that, he very nearly hit the pedestrian and the poor women in the micro looked terrified. I wasn't even attempting to keep up but he had to stop twice and I nearly caught up with him both times. I don't know if maybe he thought that I was racing but losing?!?!?

I wish I had got his plate as I really don't think he should have a licence. Not a case of if but when with that sort of driving.

No, I was never that stupid, but I've had the same kind of reaction when I've been in some of my previous cars.

The Impreza P1 was always attracting idiots, and surprisingly, my Boxster did too.

No one bothers me in the M3 though, which is nice.

TBH it's a PITA driving the Evo at night. Filled up with fuel a few nights ago and was just about to leave and saw an M3 come in to the garage. Stop have a look at me and then promptly turn around and proceed to try and bait me on the dual carriageway.

Never have this problem in the wife's car. It doesn't happen during the day either but every single time I go out at night, there they are. I'm at nine points so certainly won't be partaking chaps, sorry.

Exactly the same with me. I have an M3 and never ever get this sort of behaviour.

I've always fancied a P1 or type R subaru but this sort of thing puts me off. I guess it's the image associated with the cars.

apart from the whole "being poor" thing.. thats why i don't drive an overly fast car.

170 lethargic donkeys keep me happy on the twisty bits.. but also keeps me honest on the truly fast bits

...overall on consideration i'd a've an evo in half a heartbeat if i could

I don't think age is that relevant as the last complete tool that I reported for bad driving was late 20's / early 30's and driving a rather smokey Evo.
I get the feeling that just wanted to show that they (thought they) had the fastest / biggest bhp car on the road, to get ahead of me they overtook on the hatching and went around the roundabout the wrong way (only a small round about). Then charged off.
Caught up with said muppet about 500 metres later and just sat behind laughing at him. I guess some cars bring the worse out in some people and others want to think their car is faster than yours / do anything to get in front. Ironic thing was I was driving a 997 turbo at the time.

Don't get me wrong, you're in a different spot captainawesome, but what's so wrong with this for most folks? Quiet road, having a little fun within sensible limits, enjoying driving with someone else, it's a very PH thing to do. 9 points means it's a different ball game of course.

Quite. I had huge fun one day with an S5 and an AM v8. A very gentlemanly hoon. We left each other plenty of space, good sight lines and some very respectable speeds within the limits of the roads and as it happens, we were both low on fuel and stopped at the same garage and had a long chat. He then took me for a spin in his, and I took him out in mine.

A very PH morning.

I then forgot the shopping I set out for and returned home with a big grin and empty handed, which isn't exactly what my wife was expecting.

Oh don't get me wrong I used to enjoy a bit of fun, my last three points came from having fun with a new motorway 'buddy' in a E9x M3 when I was in the supercharged M3, we had about 50 miles of fun on the M6 and unfortunately I just happened to be in front when we found the camera van.

Last night happened in area with shops on one side of the road and a housing estate on the other, very heavily populated with pedestrians and often kids. He nearly mowed down one person and then nearly hit another car.

I may have underplayed exactly what happened with the M3 on the dual carriageway for fear of being called a hypocrite. Thats a mile long stretch of straight dual carriageway which was empty and no paths or houses on either side. I had him till a certain speed where E46 M3's very much come into their own.

The lad in the polo wasn't acting in a PH manner, more a homicidal maniac manner.

I'm in no way against a bit of fun, very much for it, but time and a place.

It'll be the car. Those VAG TDI's have got some torque you know and are just as fast as any 'proper' performance car whilst also getting 60mpg.

Owners must take every opportunity to prove this. Did he also have a car bra and blue headlights?
