Hope some of you will be able to help me out here! My 2001 Corsa 1.2 (80,000 miles) failed it's MOT today on these reasons:
1) Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases.
2) Rear brake application uneven.
3) Rear brakes release unevenly.
4) Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits.
5) Nearside rear coil spring broken.
6) Brakes imbalanced across an axle.
The garage quoted me around £300 for repairs (that includes part + labour). Would you say this is about the right price? Also would you say it's even worthwhile to repair the car due to the age, faults etc - should I try and sell it on instead?

5 cheap easy fix.
2,3,6. Could all be the same thing, fixed by new discs and pads and a good clean up.
£300 probably not too bad for all that, if that's actually what is needed.
Sounds about right depending on whats needed.
It probably needs a new centre & rear exhaust (the join between centre and back box on these is usually rusted beyond saving) - £100 tops
Rear brakes possibly just need adjusting/cleaning (will be drum brakes on this) - £50, add £100 for a maxi kit (shoes/adjusters/springs/cylinders) if its needed which is probably the case given the not releasing properly.
£50 for an MOT = £300
Forgot the spring, about £30 and half an hours labour to fit (which is very generous!) so probably £300 plus the MOT cost.
Whether it's worth it or not is entirely up to you, if the car is in otherwise good condition then you would only get a few £100 for it anyway as spares or repair so can you buy something better for £500 with 12 months MOT ?

£300 is very cheap, as just a new exhaust section can cost that much to be replaced.
You are not likely to buy another car with 12 months MOT for less than £300.
Get it fixed.
Having done most of those to a corsa and meriva before £300 is a good bargain...

Rear springs (as I didnt like to just do one) £30 ebay

BINGO!Sounds like a young poster (most are who have these type/age of cars are) who unsure if costs/fixes sound OK (we were ALL young and ignorant once). PH is great for advice on stuff like this (apart from certain people making snide/sarcastic comments). An experienced PHer with many years of driving could be argued that they should know better but I suspec the OP is just simply young and finding out these things.
