Modern cars - can't lock doors from inside?

Had to drive a range of hire cars recently: Fiat 500L, Peugeout 508, Kia something-or-other.

On every one there appeared to be no way of locking the doors from the inside. Am I going insane or is this no longer a thing? They all had the child safety window switch to lock off rear windows, but no door lock button, no handle to push in to engage lock mode etc. No way of stopping any randomer from opening the doors from the outside at the lights and grabbing your briefcase.

Maybe i'm missing something driving older cars all the time, but I don't get it :P

Most of the recent cars I've known have locked the doors automatically once the car is moving, only unlocking them when someone uses an interior handle. There is probably a button somewhere.

There's usually a button that locks and unlocks all doors.

on the 500 im pretty sure the central locking is done by pushing in the door handle
I highly doubt any modern car today is sold without central locking
the good news is... driving those types of cars you shouldn't be too much danger of getting mugged

Dos the Peugeot not have a big padlock button on the dashboard somewhere?

BMW's have a big padlock button normally around the center of the dash by the hazards or down by the gear stick. This locks/unlocks the doors.

There is a button on the dash of my humble Focus to Lock all the doors.

Or you can get into some menu and toggle AutoLocking on/off.

I was in a Pug 308 today and the doors locked automatically after a few seconds of starting.

On the 508 the padlock button is literally in the middle of the dashboard, right next to the hazard warning light switch. I think on the 500L it's in the same row as the hazard switch, right under the head unit display.
