1.6 16v 2001 clio now stuttering...Coil pack?

Hi yesterday my Clio 1.6 2001 model started to stutter and almost feel like it was going to cut out, Also the day before I ha to drive through quite a bit off water left in the road, Could this have caused the problem? I have read after a google search that coil packs are often needed to be replaced on clios. Also I have the engine management light showing on the dashboard. Many thanks

From what you describe, it does sound like a coil pack. I had one fail on a car about 12 months or so ago & it did exactly the same - stuttering & wanted to cut out. Unfortunately, I live up a hill - fortunately my neighbour owns a garage so sorted it very quickly!

I got all 4 replaced and all the plugs at the same time - I figured if one has gone, it was a matter of time before they all did & they didn't charge me any extra labour for doing all 4 and the plugs.

Coil packs are a common problem on that era of clio.

Many thanks, I checked ebay for prices. What one is best to go for? So many different brands/types.

I got rid of my Clio just before Christmas, but when I first got it I went through a ford and like you it was stuttering away. I replaced the coil pack and it was fine. I got mine through Clio Spares, which has now got a new name RenParts

They are always breaking cars so you might be able to pick one up cheaper - it's worth giving them a call. Mine was a 1.2 16v (2002) and I remember I had to get the right one for the 16v engine (from memory there was a different number of bolts) so make sure you buy the right one.
