London to Severn Bridge and back

Some time ago, I remember watching a chat show (I think) and someone was talking about a club (might have been the RAC) where the members used to race from the club in central London to the Severn Bridge and back again. The bridge ticket providing the proof of the run. Fastest bought the cigars and brandy.

It was something akin to the fabled racing around the M25 back in the day.

I can't find any information about this, to prove I'm not going senile, can anyone else shed any light on when this might have taken place? I'm guessing the '60s.

I don't know of the race but the original bridge was opened on 8 September 1966 so it could have been the late 60's.
