Right so im due to move out after summer and will be saying bye to my MX5 and getting a van.
We already have a Vivaro and our family business can afford to lease another for me. It will be my daily.. used for everything so needs to look smart.. body coloured bumpers etc and also have abit of poke and potentially auto.
I can't seem to look past the VW transporter 2.0tdi 140ps with the DSG, maybe in the highline spec?
I couldn't use the Vivaro as that will be for my brother to use and my dad and its a little basic for daily duties.
The new Transit Customs on my radar too but will it be seen as "just a transit"?
Image is important as i cant take my Mrs to a nice restaurant in a white scruffy van at the weekend..

I have a Transit (not the Custom) with Limited spec plus heated leather & just about every other option that was available. The build quality is excellent, I think it portrays a good image, is a nice comfortable place to be. The T5 probably has better residuals but the lack of load space makes it a non starter for me.
I've grown quite fond of my Vivaro over the last 5 years/65k, (now on 150k), had very little trouble, (turbo and steering rack) and always said I'd be more than happy with another, but the T5 is looking more probable as they look a bit better. Had a very quick look round the Transit Custom, looked very smart and much more modern than the others.
If it's purely on price, new Vivaros can be had for around £13k in Sportive guise, think the Transits start at £18k and probably around the same for the VW.
If it were my money though, I'd go for the DSG VW. Beware though, just been reading about a problem with DSG in the transported that suffer from juddering when fully laden.

Yeah i do like driving our Vivaro but want a newer design or something abit more classy. The DSG problem shouldn't affect me as i dont carry heavy stuff. The kit available impresses me in the transit but i think the transporter is just about right for what i need it for. Plus no auto in the transit and i am not too fond of changing gear in diesels.

List prices of most vans mean nothing, I bought a Vivaro sport for £12995 about 18 months ago, I think list is close to £20k. I have had to replace the audio as it wasn't a patch on the VW, but apart from that, its standard.
If you don't need something as big as the Transporter, something like these vans could be an option. I got the Bingo pre registered 4 months before I bought it, with 8 miles on the clock for under £9500 plus VAT. Sportline Caddy is the biz though, but out of my price range.

We have always run T5's on our fleet, no where near as reliable as VW suggest 
(dead turbo's, failed steering racks, common EGR faults etc)
So we are now running these

Car size car handling and car economy, a little shy on the performance and load capability but the lads who have them really like them and prefer them to the T5's.

Vito. 3 lengths to choose from, auto available, can be colour-coded from the factory and tons of dress-up bits available if you want them, and 3 year unlimited mileage warranty just in case you need it.
If image is important a Mercedes-Benz bears no relaton to a V-Dub, Ford, Renault, Vauxhall, Citroen etc.

They got over the rust. Build quality in general isnt much better than french etc though. Warenties worthless too if dealer wants it to be.I have an 57 120 (3.0cdi) and its a hoot but juicy, has proper torque converter auto and loads of options, car like to drive

The transporter has to be the most over rated van of all time.A guy I work with has had on a 90k van,clutch & flywheel, starter & alternator, turbo and intercooler. plus split pipe work.
p/steering pump.gear box cables & selector.
You can keep vw,My Vivaro has 133k only had a gear box repair,Which was only a tight shaft.
