Oil spill...

No not the type that kills baby seals. A bottle of 10w40 fell over in my garage over the weekend and has leaked onto the floor. I have tried moping it up with kitchen towel but it doesn't really help much, just smears it around a bit.

Is there any way of clearing it up? not bothered about a stain on the floor, i just don't fancy driving over oil everyday.

there is some on my rear tyre too, i assume i'm not going to slide off the road into the nearest ditch

You can get stuff made for oil spills, you may get it from halfords. I always used cement dust, it works a treat

Chuck a bag of flower over it, let it soak in overnight and sweep it up tomorrow. That should leave just the stain.

Kitty litter as said when it's fresh. I've found lots of washing up liquid, warm water & a stiff brush good once it soaks in.

Thanks for the suggestions, Cat litter looks like the best option. I will pick some up first thing in the morning

You want something that either absorbs the oil or emulsifies it to make it easier to clean up

Cat litter. Walk it well in, 24 hrs later shovel up and repeat.

Fire sounds like a good idea, i live in a flat with no garden though, i hope the neighbours won't mind if i do it in the car park.

Brake cleaner, carb cleaner, petrol, thinners it will thin it out and just wipe up.

Washing up liquid, pour on then agitate with a brush before hosing off.
