M3 v8 v C63 v RS4 v8 - engine noise

3 rather different sounding engines all very good but different.

So noise alone which is the best for a petrolhead?
The pure filthy dirty C63 AMG
The V8 M3 which oddly sounds reminiscent to the I6 E46 at idle but then turns into a crescendo
Or the racy RS4?


I'm wagering most will prefer the C63 AMG

I voted RS4, with it being so high revving the noise has so many different levels.
I can see the C63 totally blitzing the others in this poll tho, it does sound great.

I own a V8 RS4 and still voted for the C63 AMG...

I was behind one in town recently and he clocked me and blipped his throttle a few times... jesus it sounded good. I gave him some back but felt like a little puppy barking at a big dog!! Lovely sounding car.

Keep reading these 3 are probably the last of the V8 saloon cars to be built... very sad imo.

Having recently test driven all three i can say AMG first then either the M3/RS4.

e46 M3 for me - the car that made me love straight 6s. Modern german high performance v8s somehow sound a little false to me.

Really? The last IS was very definitely a C-class/3-series/A4 competitor! The ES used to be the 5-series sized car.

XFR(-S) sounds phenomenal too especially with a custom exhaust on the non -s.
