A few days off - Car related things to do?

Morning all,

I have a few days off before starting a new job on the 17th March, my girlfriend is working, and is not into cars, so I wanted to seize the opportunity to do something car related in her absence

I've just moved up to the North West, and have from Tuesday 11th March - Thursday 13th March to do something fun

Ideas so far

1. Hire F Type S - £153 for 24 hours, but only 100 miles included
2. Hire Morgan 3 wheeler - £190 for a day, unlimited mileage
3. Hire a 1969 911 - £250 for 2 days (buy one get one free)
4. Cheap easyjet flight to continent - hire something cheap, and do some great roads. The problem with this is, I imagine most of the better roads and passes will still be covered in Snow?
5. Eurotunnel and do Spa/Nuburgring -
6. Do some days out in the North, and North Wales

Anything else? What would you do?

Re Europe, the decent passes in the alps will be closed but there's some fantastic roads in Germany that you could combine with a Nurburgring/Spa trip, east of the Ring you get in to the "Red Hair Mountains" which is a beautiful area. We stayed at Masserberg on a bike trip some years back and plenty of good stuff to keep a group of bikers entertained for the week.

Closer to home though there's some fantastic roads in Wales, the Lake District, and the Yorkshire Dales, or go up to the Scottish borders for less traffic and great roads.

How about a flight to Spain and some of the coastal mountain roads down that way? Some amazing roads and some much needed sun...

My car needs a wiring loom reinstalled and the engine put back in, knock yourself out

I would say Lands End to John 'O' Groats, but isn't 75% of that route underwater?

Avis Prestige, midweek for 24 hours. Seems like a good deal, although 100 miles included, and £1 a mile excess mileage charge will add up quickly

I would be picking it up in Malvern, I've looked on Google Maps,

Malvern - Aberstwyth
Aberystwyth - Cromer
Cromer - Malvern

574 miles, 12hr 40 mins

That leaves me 11hrs 20 mins for sleep, petrol stops, Double Decker stops...loads of time!

Stay local, hire a Caterham and head for the Dales / Moors / North Wales / Other place you lot have up North...

Check the weather forecast, it'll be miserable in the rain.

Got a Bike licence - I hired a Gold wing for a day last year.

I wouldn't buy one (even if I did have £23k spare), but a hoot for a day.

think i would be tempted with that option, even put out a quiet lap at places you mentioned just to tick it off the list

I've got a 135i Coupe, I am very tempted to take it to the Autobahn, the way it accelerates above 100 is frightening

Should be as they keep the roads clear for access to ski resorts. Nice place Geneva, some great scenery/roads in that area.

+1 on check the weather, I love the Morgan 3 wheeler, but speaking from personal experience it's no fun on a long motorway slog with rain pissing down and half-asleep truckers wandering everywhere.

My tip? Easyjet/Ryanair to sunny Palermo, rent a Fiat 500, do the Targa Florio, I did it earlier this month and it was great fun. You should be able to do the lot for sub £200 if you're flexible.
