To pad out an otherwise not very interesting story, they say it's a £170k car. It's not, it was second hand. It's like describing an R reg Astra as a £13k car because, at some point, somebody paid that for it. Complete st.

normally i would be the first to say you couldn't do that to a car being driven legally and sensibly

but a >600bhp car with a fault on the traction control system, that is needing to be tested is a little bit of an unusual circumstance

The dealership is just round the corner from where I work and on the day it crashed was the worst of the storms and we took the brunt of it. No excuse for them crashing it mind but it's an accident and nothing more.

It wouldn't even be a story if he wasn't having an argument with his insurance company over the value.

If it was one of only 5 it might be newsworthy but then reporting on the new cost of a 10 year old car is just as irrelevant.

The real news is the 10k/year running costs! Ouch.

4 year old? It was 2004 so it was a 6-9 year old car! But then knowing someone who spent 18k on a 2002 Merc SL500 (R250) over 4 years 30k over 4 years on the AMG version doesn't shock me either.

Nevertheless, it will almost certainly be impossible to replace like-for-like with an insurance pay-out. I know it's fashionable on PH to buy a new car every 20 minutes and therefore someone writing off your car should be a great excuse to buy something else, but some people actually do really like their car and don't want to change it or lose it.

Finding an SL65 is not easy. Finding one the same paint and trim codes as your own will not be happening.

If it were mine, I'd be absolutely gutted.

on one hand the owners said the car is irreplaceable then he is saying he doesnt think its unreasonable to ask for a replacement. He aint thinking straight........if its irreplaceable then how is it reasonable to expect a replacement.
