Tosers the lot of them, I am all for squeezing out a few more mpg, but i dont turn the bloody engine off!!! FFS

No braking asistance from an empty servo for a start, plus heavy steering and no power to get out of the problem if needed
I also understand coasting with engine off is a bit of a nono and can attract some points and money out of the pocket, but am willing to be corrected on that

I like a good economy run the same as most of us...but every journey!? Christ, it'd bore the life right out of me.
If I can permit myself a sweeping generalisation about the users of that forum...they must seriously over complicate every little detail of their lives. I would not want to come across one of them in any walk of life!
I once got 950 miles out of a 1.9tdi A6 70 litre tank. Glasgow and back from Suffolk plus a few journeys on top...so there!

To be honest I've not got a problem with people who want to hypermile with the caveat that they need to do it safely and in defence of the people who run that site they specifically advise against doing engine-off coasting:

but saving money like this, in a brand new civic is pointless if you chucked 20K buying the car to begin with............ I think 10k spend/purchase and just drive it normally...... surely the cash savings are far more.
my wife has a diesel picasso, its does 50 odd all day long- work,nursery shopping, thats it. go on a run and its at 65. whichever way you look at it, its impressive I think.
and I trash its gutless 1.6 TD mercilessly at any time I have to drive the wretched thing. the thought of driving it like that, to gain an extra few mpg......no thanks.
