Why do people still think offering to pay for a car in CASH! offers some sort of advantage to the seller? Ooooo magical cash. That will tempt them to part with something cheaper. knackers
Not sure about you but I want the money safely in my bank thank you please.
I think the subtext is "i have the cash ready here to buy", ie, not waiting to sell another car, not having to wait to the end of the month, no offer of swap, trade in, etc, etc.Not sure about you but I want the money safely in my bank thank you please.
Also probably stems from people thinking (wrongly these days) that a dealership will offer a better discount for a "cash" sale.

t of the car salesman.
I ask them to give me their best price straight off, I haven't got the time or inclination to fanny around. If they are happy accepting say, £4000 for a car why jack off the punters by starting at over £5000?
Because if it was 4k you'd want it for 3k! It's called giving yourself room for manoeuver.

This is a bizarre post, but in principle there is merit in a dealer having a clear proposition of "lower screen prices but no haggling" but it probably wouldn't work as the culture of haggling for used cars especially is so ingrained.

Put it this way, if the dealer decided to cut to the chase and flog a car for £4000 when similar onces are advertised at £5000, all he'll get is punters coming along and offering him £3000.

Because its a "business" and the more profit that he doesnt have to give away the better chance he has of still being in business this time next year.

If he has the car on for £5495 why would he suddenly give away £1495 of his margin?
If anyone was wondering from the Toyota GT86 thread what a salesman actually does, heres one of them - give away as little of your profit as possible.
Any prick can sell cars - selling them and making money is the skilled bit.

With a buyer in front of you offering you cash you risk having them walk away from the deal unless its something youre both happy with hence a cash buyer will always expect a little knocked off.
At the end of the day its all about a bit of bartering and clearly some are better at it than others but cash is still a good weapon to have in the buyers armoury IMHO.
For sellers it gives them finality at the point of sale and an immediate return rather than a cheque they have to wait to bank and clear - the buyer could change their mind and stop the cheque and not collect the car and youve turned buyers away in the meantime - if the buyer has come out to see the car and has a rubber banded wad of £20s on him you know he is serious and will aim to meet them halfway and get shot of the car there and then. Nomore viewings to wait around and conduct, certainly no hassles from buyers whove paid in advance on PayPal taken the car away and now wish to claim their money back because it doesnt meet the description (theyve found a clip is missing), that wad of cash might help the seller if they want to go and buy a car as a cash buyer themselves!

Many things like that annoy me;
What's your best price?
What price for CASH right NOW?
What's your lowest?
I have cash waiting now will you drop to £xxxx
I don't even entertain these people anymore, only talk of people that turn up and view, then I'm happy to haggle.
I hate the "wots ur best price m8" merchants, whatever I'm selling. Don't mind people making offers as long as it's sensible (half the asking price does not qualify as "sensible"). But just you're too lazy or thick to come up with a reasonable offer, I'm not going to drop the price. My "best price" is therefore always the asking price, or for particularly irritating morons it's more!Many things like that annoy me;

Have you seen how many threads and warnings (real and spoof) there are about payment methods being reversible?Not sure about you but I want the money safely in my bank thank you please.

Instant transfer over the bank counter is the simplest and safest way. I'm not overly keen on wads of cash. Unless they pay it into my bank whilst im there of course.

What planet do you live on? Why would i sell something for less if there is the chance i can get more?

Well, that _really_ narrows down the bit of the week that Mon-Fri wage slaves have available to flog their car, doesn't it?I'm not overly keen on wads of cash. Unless they pay it into my bank whilst im there of course.
Hmm, had a text offer for my Puma today of "car still available?" followed almost immediately by "520 cash will buy today" - I don't mind a cheeky bid but when it's out of the blue it just comes across the wrong way.
Not entrusting my little car to someone that can't be bothered to make a polite enquiry!
Back on topic - only ever used/taken cash for a private sale until recently when sold my CBR and the guy transferred money to my account via the internet from the comfort of my front room. Guess that's the future!

Unless thats an ill thought out off the cuff example, I'm gonna get myself a car lot and starting making this kind of profit!
i thought the margins were much slimmer than that.
