15k on sports/gt type car- Porsche 996 / Maserati 3200

Hi all, as in title really,
Looking to spend around the 15k mark on a sports car.
Have a v8 Grand Cherokee as the family run about
Transit for work
Classic beetle karmann cabriolet for the odd time the sun shines + aircooled shows
And now looking for a nice sports cruiser, something I can fit me, the mrs and daughter in, she's 18months and in car seat so 2+2 or bigger.
Must be capable of covering large distances in relative ease/ comfort (holidays etc...)
Quick, previously owned a TVR Tuscan red rose but not hoping for performance to rival that ! Its not set to be a track car
Something different/don't see everyday possibly !?!
Already considering Porsche 996 c2/4 or Maserati 3200- opinions on these ?

I have a 3200GT Manual and it is one of THE most addictive cars I've ever owned. The way they deliver power is mental and every bit as quick as RS4's and M5's I've owned. They get a bad wrap from the internet but from what I have found a lot of the jobs can be done cheaply by yourself or by specialists at a fraction of a price than a dealer would charge.
I just had cambelt, thermostat, service , brake upgrade and few other niggles ironed out for £1700 which is not far off Audi TT/VW Golf running costs!
If you do buy I suggest you get one before Wheeler Dealers air their new epsiode because I reckon it will put the 3200 on people's radar as a slice of Italian heaven for not much cash, plus we have the Maserati Centenary and lots of press at the moment. Current article in Classic and Sportscar this month for example.
Against a 996, well I'm sure the 996 would be that bit more easier to live with in terms of reliability but come on they look so dull! They are common as much and don't have the boomerangs. For sure the best looking affordable supercar of the last 15 years and look at it. Hasn't aged badly at all.

I ended up with a Maserati 4200 Cambiocorsa. I've had it a few years now and it's been faultless (I've gone and said it now
) with nothing more than routine services through an indy. Although folks rave about the boomerang real lights on the 3200, I've grown to prefer the 4200 tail. It's a better sorted car, and has a VERY nice normally aspirated motor. Not highly strung but goes fairly well and sounds very very nice.Given my time again I'd buy another 4200 without hesitation. I would not buy a 3200 as a GT/cruiser/family car. Oh, and I dismissed Porsches, Jags, Mercs and BMWs fairly early on in the process. I'm sure you will do the same
None seemed to bring anything to the party that the 4200 already delivered in spades (plus it's a proper 4-seater, but then so is the 3200), and all failed the 'it's just a ####' test! Park a 4200 next to an M5, and to most folks its "a MASERATI with some 5-series parked next to it"!Edit - BTW here's mine
I love the Blu Mediterano - absolutely lights up in the sun. Took ages to track one down with a cream interior...but found one eventually.

Beautiful car.
I've had a 4200 and a 996 and the 996 left me utterly cold in comparison to the Maser.
The Maser is an event to drive where the Porsche is just a normal quick car.
3200 is a better looking car than the 4200 but the engine and the interior of the 4200 is more special. Depends which you prefer.

I'd buy back rv02ooy if I could find it, but it cost me plenty. Including the depreciation it cost me nearly 2k per month...

Register at sportsmaserati forum, introduce yourself and we can assist you in your search. Once you get into the car it will click and you will wonder why you haven't had one for years....

Already seen the guide. In fact been toying with the idea of a 3200 for best part of 18 months so done a lot of google searching etc... Although it's the internet horror story's that I've let put me off so abit of a double edged sword really !
Best bit is look at the stories with TVR especially the Tuscan but mine was 100% faultless and I can't help but tell anyone interested in them that they get a bad rep but can be utterly brilliant cars !
Time to bite the bullet and get a test drive, should be the deciding factor me thinks
