Short term road tax for sorn vehicles

I can't be the only classic/ kitcar owner who doesnt allways tax his "fun" car through the winter...I feel there should be an option to buy short term road tax ,some times it would be very usefull if there was an option to buy anything from a day or up to a week of road tax.As it stands once a vehicle is sorn the only way to move it is to put it on a trailer..I have tried to ask the D.V.L.A this question but they inform me that this can only be put to them via the Government and that means the likes of us approaching our local M.P..So thought my best chance of getting an idea of a general feeling of how much support this is would get would be ask the question on Pistonheads......So what do you think!!????..
Well it depends. The question is why do you need to get the car 'somewhere'? If it's for MOT or MOT repair, you can drive it so this covers most things as almost all repairs will be for MOT reasons, like a copper's going to argue the point anyway.
If you're selling it, not your problem. I think when buying a car driving it back un-taxed is a fault of the system, not me. I pay tax on at least 2 other cars all year round. Might be a different story if ever I'm stopped, mind, but I don't buy cars that often.
Guy I know recently bought a car that'd been stood inside for 4 years, albeit started regularly. He was going to faff with a trailer etc. I said if it goes and stops and lights work, book MOT and drive it. It passed with one advisory, think it was brakes related. So it can be a good thing!

O.K. But for now let's just say I want to drive my m.o.t.ed and insured car for any reason but think it outrageous that I only have an option to buy 6months road tax or put it on a trailer.....What I am saying is I believe there should be an option to buy short term road tax,to me that would be fair AND would stop any person chancing even a quick blast up the road without tax..?
Well yeah. I've always thought the person should be taxed, not the car. You can only drive one at a time etc. But then they'd lose money. I'm itching to drive the GTE again but can't decide when to tax it.
Hopefully when the tax disc dies in October and the digital version gets some legs there can almost be a PAYG system.

Not quite. You're buying 12mo tax, but paying for it monthly, same as insurance. You're not buying it monthly. They'll be charging a 5% premium, same as they're reducing the 6mo disc premium to.Gee Boo said:
