Private number plate question

I have owned a private plate kept on retention and decided to put it on my new car.
I have sent off to DVLA my V5C, MOT, photocopy of tax disc and completed retention form.
I have received back my new V5C showing the new number plate but have yet to receive my new tax disc and MOT.
I presume that they are sent under separate cover, does any body know if this is right and how long does it normally take after receiving the new V5C.
