Mercedes, BMW, Audi 'Image' problem?

I know some of the german cars have always had a 'gangster' image but is this getting worse and are manufacturers almost using this to sell cars now?

I dont think it would stop me buying an AMG, RS or M based car as their merits far outweigh any occasional reference you may get to driving a 'gangsters' car but i do think it is getting worse.

The amount of gangster wannabe plebs in this area driving about in snapbacks with their seat so far back they can barely see over the dashboard is definately increasing... 1 series / A3 'black' edition the transport of choice.

Am i right or has this always happened and times have just changed so the 'celebrities' being used to endorse cars are not the gangster / nobhead type?

Odd. I heard that song noise the other day on Radio 1 (sorry) and had assumed it was some kind of joke!

The Mercedes advert is just rubbish. Most folk who could afford a brand new E63 AMG probably wouldn't know who Tinie Tempah is. That said, I suppose they must have flogged a couple of white A 180s on PCP from it.

It's a very different sort of 'German whip' to the last kind I saw on the Internet.

I don't get it. Is a "whip" a car? If I'm honest, I only listened to about 7 seconds of it and I didn't really catch any of what the nice ethnic man said.

Mercedes seem to have a worsening image now, backed up by some truly terrible looking cars that seem to be targeting the yoof/Gangsta. A friend has a 2 year old E Class Coupe thing. Bloody awful car - very poor ride, nasty interior plastics and generally pretty revolting. The new S Class is a real mess.

I really don't understand the Merc advert, sound with power. Surely just having the engine noise is enough to make a good advert but I guess it suggests the e63 gives you a increased sense of happiness over a baby or a Tinie tempah song.

The German whip song is stupid, if you put the hashtag #germanWhip on Instagram it just comes up with endless photos of clapped out mk4 golfs, base spec mercs and people putting photos of their dad's company car on the internet too look cool, I think I might put one of my mk6 golf estate on. After a it's white, leased and diesel I'm sure they will love it!

It's marketing. While no 21 year old can afford the C63 or A45, plenty of 21 year olds can afford an A180 diesel, in white, with every AMG box ticked, provided they're approved for the finance. Mercedes are to a great extent a finance company that happens to sell a few cars these days if you look at their sales numbers.
