HIgh shine Car wax for Black car.

OK guys, I am a bit of a car Tart. Got myself a Black Beemer as my daily run around and want to make the paint super glossy. Any recommendations on what wax/products to use. I do have a decent Mop to use. Although I am more than happy to use elbow grease.

Pay a company like KDS to machine polish it for you. The swirl marks in the paint make it look dull.
Then wash using the 2 bucket method including snow foam to minimize the chances of getting swirl marks

Then clay the car, polish it and apply a couple of layers of good wax.

I have always used AutoGlym stuff, gives really good results.

Dad's black A4 came up beautifully after some super resin polish and HD wax.

Autoglym resin Polish topped off with their high gloss (gold square on bottle) yes it's like polishing it twice but worth it.

This. It's the polishing that makes the difference. The rest of it is just protection and good practice as to not introduce any imperfections.

Without getting into too much geeky detailing, or spending a fortune, a 5-step process of Zymol wash, followed by Meguiar's clay and lube, followed by Autoglym Resin Polish, followed by Zymol wash, followed by Turtle Wax Ice Paste brings out my two black cars in a shiny "mirror" finish every time. Takes about 6 to 12 hours per car. The shiny effect lasts about 1 month or so (which is reasonably good)... before a quick Zymol wash and Autoglym Aqua Wax spray-on bring back the effect in an hour or two.

I was always a Meguiar's fan.

In this instance: Step 1 Meguiar's Paint Cleaner, Step 2 Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish & finished off with Meguiar's Gold Class.

BMW E36 in diamond black metallic. You can see the whole street from the reflection in the lifted bootlid!







Edit to add: I've been impressed with Autoglym's stuff too. Super Resin Polish followed by Extra Gloss gives very good results (quite easy to apply too) and imo more durable than the Meguiar's Gold Class.

It's all about the prep and correction, not the last stage product.

Yes a filler heavy product like SRP or a glaze like Blackhole will hide some of the swirls but the result will not match a properly corrected car, even with nothing on it.

Not from personal experience, but next-door swears by it for his Maserati... It's very relaxing watching his weekly session with it (from a comfortable chair with a cup of coffee!!)

Another +1 for black hole here! It's a glaze, so really adds the shine. Topped off with Nattys blue and you wont go wrong.

But clay the paintwork first as that removes everything that would dull the shine. Then get the paint corrected as you'll look at it on a sunny day and see all the swirls and RSD's shining back at you! Then glaze and wax!

Black hole are Natty's Blue are nice and easy to use and also reasonably priced there's just nothing on the market that's as good for the money for dark coloured cars..
Plus if you like grape and bubble gum then your in for a bonus as they smell fantastic..

Should have said I clay use Tardis & Iron X first, but the Black Hole & Natty's blue work better than anything I've tried before & lasted much longer than I had a right to expect. As people have started adding pics, I will as well![url]
