Tyres - not the usual debate!

Morning chaps.

I'm looking ahead to when I will need tyres on my Rover 75. I like this car to be as quiet and comfortable as possible, which at the moment it isn't. I find road noise is fairly intrusive at the moment, which is annoying, but based on the Nexen CP661 tyres I think it might be these, as they have a decidedly average noise rating. The car's geo is set up properly so I don't think it's caused by uneven wear or anything.

I've narrowed my choices down to these two tyres:

• Dunlop BlueResponse
• Dunlop StreetResponse
• Goodyear EfficientGrip

All these tyres are in the lowed band for road noise, and have goot wet grip & fuel economy ratings. Overall they're all a much better option that the current tyres fitted (courtesy of the previous owner, I hasten to add).

Is there much difference between the two Dunlop varieties? Are there any other tyres I might want to be looking at?

Dunlop Blueresponse and Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance were developed in a Dunlop / Goodyear joint venture and as a result are pretty simular in construction. They're pretty new to the market and they will be quite different to the Streetresponse which is an older tyre.

The difference between Goodyear EGP and Dunlop BlueResponse is that the Goodyear was optimised for comfort more than the Dunlop which is supposed to be the 'sportier' feeling tyre.

I fitted a set of the Goodyears to my old 5-series last month and for a Rover 75 they'll be ideal.

ETA: The Goodyears are lightweight and they roll quietly and smoothly. The trade-off is that they're pretty vague and feel kind of stodgy.

I suspect the Continental equivalent is 'better' but apparently they wear at a ridiculous rate.

I editted on a bit more with the downside of the Goodyears. Just checking you'd seen it. If you hoon about in your car like you're Ayrton Senna you'll probably be disappointed by the vagueness of the turn-in and the general lack of feedback.

P.S. I seem to remember those Nexens having something like a 75dB noise rating in my size, compared to the Goodyear's 68 or 69.

That's basically because all my info was from your website

I was trying to find the 2013 summer tyres buying guide to reference, but couldn't- that's where I read about the Dunlop / Goodyear joint venture thing!
