Registration Number switchover - When to change plates?

Having never done this before, I sent the papers to DVLA to put my son's personalised registration number on my car, as a nominee.

I’ve got the new V5 back, but not the Tax Disc or MOT. My son also hasn’t received anything from DVLA. As I think the transfer instructions were on the paperwork that went to DVLA, I don’t know when I can switch the plates over

In anticipation of this, I already have the plates, but with only the V5 and no Tax Disc or MOT, when can I put the plates on the car? The DVLA site doesn’t seem very clear

Do I wait for the Tax Disc or am I OK now?

Number plates should match the tax disc on the car.

Having just gone through this on the wifes car, in the next day or two, you will get new tax disc and a certificate to instruct you to put the new plates on that car. Dont change the plates until you recieve the tax disc and certificate. (both will come in same envelope.)

This, but there seems to be a weeks delay between receiving the new V5 and MoT/Tax disc. Used to be the other way round MoT/Tax/No plate auth'n first then V5 sometime later.

Also when you do change, don't forget to tell the insurance co.....
