Paint Protection Film - Experiences and recommendations plz

I am planning a 2,000 mile road trip and want to get some paint protection film on the front of my car. What has been people's experiences of these? What is there life span and are they easy to apply / remove?

There seem to be a lot of firms offering this now, I guess they are only as good as the fitter? What experience have you guys had and could anyone recommend someone?
