What car/event made you become a Pistonhead

What car really done it for, or was it a specific event that turned your heart into a 6 cylinder, your brain into an ECU and your blood into fully synthetic oil, to become a car enthusiast?

From my Dad he owned a couple of Capris when I was little then in 1980 when I was seven he bought a V8 5 Litre Mustang & from then on I became very interested in cars & nice sounding engines & not much has changed to be honest.
I still love hearing a nice car blast past me I was out running this morning & a guy in a 911 opened it up & it still excites me now the noise of a decent engine... very sad I know but I just cant help it!!

For as long as I can remember.
As a kid I had a big box of matchbox cars and a street mat, scale replicas in my room and Posters of Escort Cossies etc on the wall.
My Mum always had interesting cars, the earliest i remember was an MG Metro (didn't move that much) that was replaced by an XR3i with the pepperpot wheels. This then changed to an XR2i (not sure what generation, had the quad square fog lights).
At that time I was acting tea boy for my Dads westfield build pretty sure thats what got me on the slippery slope to PHness

like any man, just grew up obsessed........ in my teenage years, by best mate at school's dad was/is phil short, who was the co-driver with david llewyn....... the era of GR4's, audi quattros........... lombard rally.... used to get lifts from him......... can you imagine being in a car, driven by a professional rally driver....... as opposed to someone who thinks they are a good driver, in a quick car !!!!
and then at work at 18, someone gave me boxes of old street machine and custom car magazines........ I think possibly volksworld might have been about then. anyway as an affordable way into custom car ownership etc, got heavily into aircooled vw's......... which in fairness then, were prefectly good, not that old cars anyway.
i;d punch you in the face though if you made me drive an aircooled vw, on a daily basis as a grown up though !!!

I'd had a falling out with my brothers and stormed of out the house, I didn't know where I was going but my neighbours brother had just arrived and parked his Aston Martin V8,so I sat on the pavement next to it while it hissed and gurgled and cooled down. It was British Racing Green and had the widest tyres I'd ever seen. I've been hooked ever since and am looking to buy that very car now if the opportunity arises
My dad's cars when I was younger. The first I remember was a black Capri with a blue accent stripe. I think that was a 3.0 Ghia, but he also had a 1.6 Laser and a 2.8i at some point.

As other people have said, it was my dad's passion for cars that started it for me. During my childhood, my dad always had M Sport BMW's - generally really fast saloons. It was one car in particular which did it for me was the E39 M5. After all that time, it's still a car that I want!
