It was mentioned in the 360 thread and have pondered this before, so though was perhaps worth its own thread.
Basically, I think the background in a car advert is pretty much as important as the car itself.
Was looking at E46 M3's last year and it amazed me what some owners think is the way to go with regards to a photo when selling a car, one was pictured on a litter strewn grass verge, another was full of debris in the interior including some manky trainers. I saw one M3 advertised and it showed a photo of the boot and it had a used looking container of cheapo oil which may be unconnected but I thought that its probably using oil and being topped up with budget 20W50 multigrade slops.
Not a car but the best I ever heard was a bloke at work advertising a couch on the noticeboard that had a massive fat, aged Labrador plonked on it, he clocked me reading the board and asked me whether I wanted the couch which was in good condition and was a quality item, I asked jokingly whether the dog was included but he said that alas his beloved hound had passed away, the result of many ailments, among those listed was a skin complaint, the sale was due tot he dog having passed as it was her couch and now surplus to requirements.
Anyone else spotted things in ads that put them off.

There was an ad on here a while ago for a boggo hatchback - all the pictures were of it at a run what you brung drag event, on track.
My uncle rang me once and asked me to take down a video of him spinning his car round a deserted car park, it was a one off thing killing some old tyres on an otherwise extermely pampered example but it was a fairly rare, enthusiasts type car. Not as common on here, but the quality of photos on scumtree are laughable.
Take this for example. This is just the first example I've found. Now I can understand if someone doesn't know how to rotate a photo and it's perpendicular to the orientation it should be, but some photos are upside down.
Instagram style filtered photos or batman fight scene angled photos do my head in as well.

Personally location doesn't bother me in the slightest. Actually, that isn't quite true. I find it vaguely irritating when people drive to the local stately home to take photos for their advert. Why? Are we supposed to infer that they live there? Very odd.
When it comes to adverts,w e all find certain things strange. I've never understood why so many people find it impossible to take a photo of a car without including a huge shadow of themselves.
Some people are so needlessly judgmental that they wouldn't consider viewing a car that's advertised by someone who took the photos in a less than desirable location, or who can't spell or operate a camera.
The result is that those who realise that these factors have no bearing on whether the vendor has maintained their car can often pick up a bargain.
