Damage to Neighbour's Car from Rabbit Hutch

Hello All,
In September my rabbit hutch roof blew on to my neighbours car scratching all the bonnet. This was due to a freak wind that took the roof over my fence, which it had never done before.
Their car is an 02 plated megane in silver, he has just approached my me today stating that it is going to cost £275 to repair. I obviously asked for a quote before I would commit to paying.
Neighbour did approach me initially in September and he knows it was my rabbit hutch as he discovered it. He hasn't communicated with me at all since that day and we are now 5-6 months on today and he dropped to bombshell of a bill, which sounds extortionate to me.
A quick search on eBay brings up a £25 bonnet in the same colour in Bristol and others for around £50 - £75, which could be used as a direct replacement.
My question I suppose is, what argument do I have to say that I think it is too costly and also could it be covered under an Act of God if I think he is being too unreasonable with the price?
I am willing to offer as £100 for settlement of the costs considering it is not entirely my fault for the incident as the wind was particularly bad that day I don't want to be taken for a mug, especially as I lost my job this week.

Unless you were negligent in the maintenance of your rabbit hutch, and he can convince a Judge that you were, you are not liable.
You only need to consider neighbourly relations; is the cost/effort of sorting him out worth the relationship to you? If it is you can decide what level of goodwill to apply. Personally his attitude so far would have me telling him to "do one".

I am pretty sure legally I have the law behind me but I was asking to see if £275 repair has to be paid for essentially what is a £500 car. Can I say "oi" it is an unreasonably high repair bill for a worthless car.
Gearing in mind they have parked up a 13 plated Hyundai 4x4 thing a couple of months ago...easily worth £15k plus.

I have a 62 plated corsa on finance...yes I would think £275 vs value of my car is proportionally worth it. Ultimately though I would have communicated, got the quotes and sorted it months ago. If your car was damaged by somebody else's stuff you'd probably just want it sorted?

I wasn't trying to get out of it but with my neighbours lack off communication, loss of my job this week and the age/value of his car, I thought maybe it was unreasonable to ask for that amount of money to fix it. Seeing as I can pick up a bonnet on eBay for £25 quid in the same colour. I didn't know if I had to accept the quote and move on or if I had some bargaining power to say actually it's too expensive?
