Anyone here run Apex springs on stock Sachs shocks on an M3?

Hi guys,

prior owners kinda messed about with the suspension and the front shocks are a mess as the shocks were very poorly fitted when the springs were replaced with aftermarket Apex 23mm drop ones.

Now looking at a set of new shocks. But also now thinking about changing the springs as Apex seems to have a poor reputation on the M3Cutters site.

Anyone here have any opinions on the OEM ones being fine with Apex? Or can anyone recommend more uprated ones?

My second M3 had both rear springs snap, so I replaced all four with an einbach pro kit, which ruined it because it was far too hard, so was upset easier on bumpy roads.
Keep it standard. It may not look quite as good, but it drives better.

hmmmm. I was thinking of replacing the Apex with Eibachs! I'll also be replacing all the old shocks at the same time

I fitted eibachs to mine with standard shocks. Drive was great,wasn't too hard at all....eibach are usually a good ride .
Had spacers on mine too which we're also fine.

I replaced my suspension with Eibach Pro Kit and Bilstein B4's on my old Touring. Handling was good but the ride was a bit too firm which got tiring after a while. If I got another BMW I would just replace like with like and uprate the rear anti roll bar.

As you say though it is all personal preference. Now I'm older with a knackered back I'm just after a comfortable ride but minimal roll through the bends.

Bear in mind the standard suspension is well past it's best at 60k miles, so adding a set of lowering springs is going to exacerbate the situation further.

The shocks will cope with a lowering spring; the convertibles use the same shock but sit considerably lower due to their weight.

Not tried on a M3 but have never had issues with Bilstein b6 or b8 shocks combined with up to 40mm lowering springs.

I also prefer not to mix uprated springs on standard shocks and have tried Apex springs in the past combined with koni adjustable dampers which gave good results.

I know someone who had Apex springs on a Mustang and swopped them out for Roush springs, I think. Not the most comfortable or progressive springs.
