Carbon Fibre Wrap
Discussion
Got some dash parts off a luxury car.
I've noticed that the veneer dash when wrapped can go for about four times as much on eBay.
So not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth I am considering using my wrapping skills and perfectionist persona to wrap these in carbon fibre.
I only need around half a metre square but looking around there seems to be so many different types of carbon wrap.
Not looking to spend a fortune on real carbon of course but i'm guessing quality varies.
Can anyone recommend a decent 'realistic' looking wrap that doesn't look cheap/naff etc but is peanuts in price.

My only advice is to not use cheapo vinyl. 3M Di-Noc is what most people would recommend as they are the go to brand but in all honesty Hexis' Hex'Press wrapping is on a par with the 3M stuff having used both. The proper stuff won't be available cheap though! With an account plus discount with a big supplier my rate is £37 + VAT per metre at 1520mm height.
My mate tried a DIY bonnet wrap with cheap eBay vinyl despite my advice not to and it would only stretch and conform a small amount. It ended up splitting in the middle and so was scrapped.
I'm a signwriter not a wrapper but I use all sorts of vinyls and brands for work.
Eta - I've never done any dipping myself but the results are great having seen the results.

Have you considered carbon dipping? The results look very, very good. You can get DIY kits on ebay. Very tempted to give it a go myself.
Regarding wraps, whatever you go for, a coat of lacquer helps adds some depth. Can't recommend any specific wrap brand though.
Carbon dip? Is that next to the tartan paint?Regarding wraps, whatever you go for, a coat of lacquer helps adds some depth. Can't recommend any specific wrap brand though.

Saw the riser for a compound bow done in carbon dip; quite amazing result that would have been impossible with wrap. It's a far more complex shape than any dash panel I can recall, so should look good if you can find a large enough dip to do the whole panel in one go.
Now a tartan zip... it's got to be technically possible.

You can do full colour dips using a similar process, a tartan "paint" is 100% possible. Now a tartan zip... it's got to be technically possible.
Just not advised
