I used to work at Halfords, I call not fake.

They also had some which showed double din in cars without double din slots, and stereos photoshopped into dashs they clearly didn't fit into.

I wonder how many people actually pay £6.99 to have them fit a battery, £1.99 to fit new wipers and £3.99 to replace a bulb. Those prices are 'from' as well.

If they could do a Mk3 Clio headlight for that price I would take it. If only to see them scratch their heads for 2 hours before giving up. A dealer quoted me £140 to change it.

Having also worked there I can say quite a lot. The wipers especially. It is a ten second job but if you don't know how to do it it can take a lot longer. I've seen men take over half a hour with blades before admitting defeat.

The prices used to be high but £4 to do a bulb is well worth it on some cars. If people don't like the prices they are free to pay another garage by the hour if they wish.

I would have paid £6.99 for them to fit my last battery - it was on its last legs and died trying to leave the halfords carpark - luckily I had a shifter in my bag and did the swap myself - was not the right tool for the job though!

Would also take £3.99 to fit a new bulb any day of the week.

Thats the reason why I went there for the headlights on my A6. I remember trying to figure it out myself with a colleague (who's an ex mercedes engineer) and we just gave up.

Worth the price for entertainment value, and I'll give the kid credit - he did manage to get the lights replaced.

It takes about 20 seconds once you know how. The "knowing how" takes about 30 minutes.

I used my local Halfords to change a bulb on my last car. It was a Sunday afternoon, and I needed to take my stepson back home on the motorway and it would have been dark on the return journey.

The £3.99 was well worth it - the rather grumpy young man did it in the rain In under ten seconds - phenomenal.

However, I asked my local mechanic to show me how to do wiper blades when I got my first car, and can now change them with no problems, but if you don't know, you don't know! It that £1.99 per set or per blade? It's a very quick job and seems a bit steep to me.

I did laugh when I had to buy some fuses at short notice to paid their rather expensive prices and was asked by the sheepish kid behind the counter whether I wanted them to fit it. I politely declined!

I paid them £7 to change my battery.

It's easier as a two man job on the jeep as one man can hold the bonnet right up out the way.

He also grabbed some spare terminal covers from the workshop to make it a tidy job.

Well worth the money.

I almost shredded my hands replacing a fog light on my Mini. The lad at Halfords sorted in no problem. Did not charge me either probably because I had spent quite a lot on that visit. I think their charges are reasonable and the service is a god send for many female drivers.

I'd love to see their expression if they tried to change a battery on a Lotus 340r. IIRC, it's a full body-off job.

I needed a new side light in my Golf which means taking the bumper off from under the front wheel arches.
"We can fit that for you sir"
Oh really like to see you try without breaking anything.
I can't see them spending half to three quarter of an hour to replace a small bulb for £3.99

Although it grated a bit, I paid them to fit the battery but since i was on crutches at the time and there was no way i could carry it, or stand to put it in, it was a bargain really.
And they got rid of the old one

Wonder how old the photos is as I'm sure not that many cars come with tape players these days.

The changing of bulbs isn't the same across all cars. They won't (quite rightly) do the more complex vehicles for £3.99.
