Volvo's V8 Supercar debut: Time For Tea?

Polestar takes it to the Aussies in their own back yard and does rather well actually

Ever since the announcement last year, we've been eagerly awaiting the debut of Volvo in Australian V8 Supercars. The car looked brilliant, the V8 sounded awesome but would it be fast enough?

The short answer is yes, absolutely. In just its second race, Scott McLaughlin stuck his S60 on the front row with the only car ahead of him the Commodore of Craig Lowndes. It's worth remembering that both Mercedes and Nissan compete against the established Australian manufacturers as well; to qualify faster than all but one of them is a fantastic start for the Volvo Polestar team and suggests a great season of racing ahead.

Indeed, if the last lap of the Clipsal 500 at Adelaide is anything to go by, it could be a vintage year of V8 Supercars. You'll have to watch the vid to see the result but suffice to say the action is close and thrilling right up until the last corner. With plenty of V8 noise too.

Are they adaptations of proper production cars or just racers with a fake body on them?

How much of that Volvo is related to a road car?

Not a lot according to Wiki.

I would love to see Jag getting involved in this; they have an N/A 5.0L V8 that runs on E85 already... (although a lot of mods would be required to make it into a shouty race engine). Marketing push for the XE next year?

It's a lovely looking machine, reminiscent of TWR's old S40 supertourer.

Doh ... it's 2014 now - that makes him nearly 21 in my calculations ...

Fair enough. Though, I thought I heard while watching the race that he was 18. Still a great performance from him and the team.

Great finish to the race.

Looks like the Holden had a slow flat rear left tyre as it really struggled under braking and then exiting the final corner.

I think it might be more appropriate to say why watch BTCC with their little 2 litre hatchbacks. This is proper saloon car racing!! Just need to work out when its on TV and what channel.

Motors TV. Highlights are usually shown the week after the races. Apart from the Bathurst 1000 which is usually live.
