Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Just had a bit of a struggle with getting some Super Sports for my tyre size 245/35/R19.

None listed on Blackcircles and when contacted local fitter he said these were the last two having phoned up Michelin first.

Wondered whether I'm missing something? Are they being replaced with something better or are they just that popular?

They're that good.

Also have you tried tireracks website? they shipped from the USA to Middle East in 5 Days with no issues.

Grip levels wet & dry are class winners...

But, they have soft walls, and this translates to vagueness on turn-in

Interesting observation, I did always tend to feel on track like they were rolling around quite a bit, they gave the sensation that the tyres were underinflated almost but just thought it was me imagining it.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 are not far off in terms of ratings.

They're pretty soft walled too (but not as soft as the Michelin's)

Never had that problem, and on a 35-profile tyre there's not much of a sidewall anyway. I've run the 45 profile and had no issues at all (other than encouraging too much use of the right foot).

In my experience they cant be questioned on braking on track I regularly braked from over 150mph down to circa 50mph and they performed brilliantly.
Similarly they could handle all 530bhp with little more than a chirp of the tyres from a rolling start in first gear, massively outperforming my semi slicks they replaced.

I have them on the Cayman S and they are by a long way the best road tyres I've ever used.

The wear rate, given the performance, is staggeringly good as well.

Sidewall stiffness depends a lot on the size too, for example a 225/40 R18 91Y might feel stiffer in the Michelin, and the goodyear might feel stiffer in 235/35 R19 93Y

Conti's are considered a 'comfort tyre' so again soft walls

I've never heard of them having soft walls, not in comparison with the Goodyear anyway.

Ahh, not a bad price, much the same as what I've been quoted fitted anyway. Was looking before christmas and there were plenty then, listed on all my usual sites.

I'm going to go ahead and assume it's the Sport Contact 3/5 you're talking about, which isn't a comfort tyre in the conti range (that would be the premium / eco contacts)

Conti do however consider themselves a mature safety brand, so 10/10 handling via hard sidewalls isn't their top priority. Wet braking and a balance of performances are.

I'm fond of the Bridgestone S001. Not the best wet grip, but solid sidewalls

I have the S001's on my Forester STi. One of the reasons for going for them was the stiff walls. They have performed very well, and I've been happy with wet performance, but the wear rate has been alarming - 5K miles and they're pretty well shot.

The Forester has 18" wheels so choices are small. However, I think I may well get another set

Long(ish) shot but has anyone previously had Yokohama Parada/Advan and moved to MPSS or perhaps vice versa?

Interested to hear any thoughts.
